Bought a Lemon...

:shrug: Got a good price and now I know why. Long story short it had been smoking out the right side exhaust and that's after 2 crank case seals. Anyways pulled the motor and found a bent crank. So now its time to spend the money i thought I had originally saved and have a lil fun while i'm at it.

 

Looking at getting a new crank shaft, bearings, seals, and gaskets for sure. But what kind of price should I expect in doing a new crank? Or a long rod? Or Long rod and stroker? The shee is used in the dunes occasionally, but mainly it's gotta compete with my buddies bikes in a all out drag race.

 

Current mod's include: Pro Design Cool Head (dunno what cc does it say it somewhere?), Pro Design Pipes/Silencers, Boyesen Reeds, 270 / 25 Jetting with aftermarket needles, K&N Pods and Outerwears.

 

Planned Future Mods: Timing, Possible different reeds (V-Force 3's) Jetting, Lightened Flywheel, maybe gearing.

 

I would like to keep my carbs just rejet accordingly. I was thinking of calling Jeff at FAST and get some ideas from him but any other suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Look on the bright side - you saved money cause now your "fixing" the shee, not just replacing the good crank with a stroker. At least this is how I explain things to the wifey :baseball_original:

if you wann be more conservative I can get Wiesco Hot Rod cranks for the shee...

 

Stock.. $525

5mm long Rod $570

and 5mm long Rod and 4mm stroker... $650 plus gasket kit for OEM head...W6093

i picked myne up brand new with the plate for 450. *forgot to add that i wouldn't go this way..i would have the domes cut for the 4 mil. I ended up with a cub though. Shop around you can find good prices. A lot of the stuff you may want to do, it doesn't hurt to buy good used stuff. Save a lot of money that way. I'd buy a new crank though. Cool head, carbs pipes etc...i'd buy used. Let someone else take the initial sticker price hit.

I am looking at gettting a 5mm long Rod and 4mm stroker setup. What kind of power gains should I see? Will I have to modify my case any? Does it all come together, i'm sure the rods will already be on the crank and then you have to buy the 795 series pistons. If I do this and get the appropiate spacer will my porting be okay? I pulled the domes and they're 22cc domes I know this isn't high comp. what would be a good dome to run with the above listed and 93 octane with the occasional 112? Will I have to change my actual carb's? If so to what? And where are some good places to look at in getting everything?

 

Sorry if i got some things wrong (please jump on and correct me)but I am a FNG to the shee world and wasn't expecting to dive head first into it but under the circumstances might as well make some nice changes to it while he wallet is open.

The 4 mil longrod crank is drop in. If you go bigger (a la 7mm or bigger) you would have to get the cases trenched. That, and once you go bigger than 4 mil the price almost doubles...:)

 

You will have to get your stock jugs ported, to take advantage of and match the new port timings due to the longer stroke...

 

You can use 795 series pistons....or, I believe you can use Blaster Pistons ( I have a big bore cub, so...I use 68mm blaster pistons)...

 

You will have to get your head recut, or you'll have to buy an aftermarket head with domes cut for the stroker....

 

To be honest...a 21cc dome will probably fit your bill. You can't build a motor to run pump most of the time, and race gas once in a while. You either will need the octane or you won't...so, a 21cc dome sounds like it'll fit your bill.

 

You could always buy a set of 17 or 18cc domes and switch them out if you feel like a little more oomph and running straight race gas..

Part of what is going to determine your needed dome size, is your port work, if you have it done. If you port it, and have the exhaust port raised, that in itself, will drop your compression. You should really get it ported, if you use the +4mm stroker crank, and then you should ask your builder what domes to get for it. I got all of my parts from Jeff@Fast Racing, and he talked me into 19cc stroker domes, but I run a 50/50 mix of race and pump gas.
