NEW GUY NEEDS SOME HELP?

Recommended Posts

Ok, nothing new....another rookie banshee owner with the sickness already after 1/2 a dune season on the bike........i've got T-6's......310 main jets and a K+N filter no lid on the airbox....and the Toomey needles not 100% on which groove the clip is on. Here's my dilema....i am going to do the Ricky Stator timing plate and i am going to lighten the flywheel......also i am going to go with the NOSS head with which domes i haven't decided......gotta talk to Nossmachine.......anyhow i would like to get my jets and do everything at once that way i am done with the mods and can work on fine tooning the bike before i want to head to the dunes.......i know i will be able to go bigger on the main but how big is TOO big...also i know i can increase pilot size also.....i'm good with making fine adjustments if i am boggin down or whatever but i really would like to know if i should go +4 degrees and 340 mains or what!!!!!!!! Thanks for any help.....

don't know on the jet size but if you set your timing at +4 and go with a 20cc or smaller dome you will have to run race gas depending on your ele. .i know when i instaleed a cool head with 21cc domes i didn't have to change the jetting it was fine.so i don't really se why you would have to change the jetting with a cool head and a timing adjustment .the only reason you should have to change your jetting is if you open up your intake or your exhaust allowing your motor to breath more.......

Agreed...

Might have to go one or two up on the main...but as said, normally compression and/or timing advance don't warrant a jetting change...

Dave Noss will set you straight on compression, elevation, dome size and octane needs...plus, he gives a discount to HQ members, don't forget to mention that to him when ordering...

OK, i see what you're saying. So no need to increse till i give it more AIR overall.....got it! So the 21cc domes i can still run 91 octane fuel....but with the 20cc domes i'll be striclty race gas.....i'm at sea level and riding in the Dunes out in Gordons Well mostly so the setup i have should be good.....I'll ned to get with NOSS MACHINE to get the low down on his domes and what he thinks. Thanks for the reply!

I worry a little about 21cc domes with advanced timing at sea level with premium pump gas. I don't really trust pump gas to be fresh and have the octane that is stated. I would run 93 octane at least or mix a little 100LL or race gas in with it to be on the safe side. With 20cc domes 50/50 should be fine.

What are POD K+N's....and why are they highly recommended???? Also are you running stock carburetors with those 340 main jets?????? that's a big jet.......i'm only at 310 if there is that much more power out there then i'm missing out!

Thanks DLNOSS for the advice......so the timing advance.....and one of your heads with domes and i'll be set huh????? Right On.... :notworthy:

Pod K & N's are two seperate filters, one for each carb, you get rid of the air box so you flow more air. 340's with pods is about average on stock carbs. When I had my air box on with no lid I was running 320's at sea level. I noticed quite a difference when I ditched the air box tough. Thats why I "highly recommend' the pods.

i see said the blind man.....sounds like a plan.....340's with my toomey needle...i'll have to do a little messing around with the needle clips then i imagine.....how far did you adjust your needle when you bumped up to the 340's.....also did you change the pilot jet?????

right right....4th groove got it....Now i know this is the wrong forum for this question but you mentioned the reeds...wihich is a better MOD for me to do then....the cool head and the timing advance with the lightened flywheel or do the reeds and skip the timing advance....just trying to get the most BANSHEE for my buck.....you know what i mean? Or screw it i could do all of them.......i'm pretty sure i could make all those happen for under $750 easy.....probably closer to 600......

You can do the flywheel and timing plate for around a hundo bucks...+ or - depending on shipping.

I think the Noss head with domes and the HQ discount is around 250...but, don't quote me on that, ask or PM DLNOSS...

V Force 3's are about 220 new...I think....

I forgot what I just paid for mine at Magic Racing....

Always do what you can afford...but don't short yourself...

he might be talking about porting out the reed cage on the v-3's.if you want i have a brand new set in the box still i will sell for 200.00 shipped..or you could just mod the stock cage and change reeds........
