njbanshee
I just put an ignition, cpi inframe pipes, and new smaller tires on the bike. After all that i am now slower then before the mods. I never had the bike on a dyno but im estimating it pushes 80 hp. My engine builder put 19 inch tires in the back. I wanted 20's but ow well. I took it out and and the bike runs great. The throtle responce is perfect, but i go through the gears faster than i can shift. I finally get it to really pull in 4th gear. What sprocket sizes do you recommend? I have stock in the back 15 in the front. Should i put a 16 or 17? Any ideas?

txblueshee
I'd see what a 16/38 does for you... Mike
Animalman294
Are you sure your tires aren't too small? With that kind of horsepower I think you could easily pull 21 or 22 tire. With the smaller tire you come out of the hole really quick (hence the quick shiftin), but then it tops out really quick too. It doesn't matter what gears you change to, those tires are going to top out lower than if you had the same gearing with a bigger tire. Do a search on here on gearing and the rear is all over the place (trial and error I think), but the front is 15 or even a 16. Most are not pulling the 17 and only some are pullin' the 16. Hope this helps...............

njbanshee
I just spoke to my builder and he agrees that i need to got to a 16 in the front and see what happens and if needed go to the 17. I hope it brings the the crazy top end it used to have back. My bike had heavey 23 inch tires in the back and i would still smoke anyone i raced. I wanted a smaller lighter tires to go faster. It worked, but now i think its just reven too fast. A bigger front sprocket should even things out. dajogejr
What porting and mods do you have? I agree...what porting and who did it. 80HP out of a stock cylinder/stock stroke is not out of the question...but hard to reach. Sprockets and tires all depend on where you ride...there is no perfect for everything. You can go one of two ways...change gearing and tires for the places you ride at...or, find a happy medium that doesn't do any one thing great...but does everything well... Start with a list of ALL your mods, your weight and terrain type to get better help... (FYI...I pulled 85 on a dyno with my 4 mil cub, on stock carbs and T5 pipes. Since then, I've added 35PWKs and a Nology Coil which I am guessing to put me in the 90HP range or so...give or take. That being said...for dunes, I'm still going to run stock gearing with a 21 inch rear paddle, I think 72 inch rollout)

njbanshee
I didn't right in all my mods, but i bet i'm up there. 4 mill stroker carbs port and polished, you know all that good stuff. I do have stock cylinders(for now). I'll get it figured out soon. I'm banking on putting a 16 t sprocket to fix this.
