Starting up the passion stroker

Recommended Posts

Well I pulled off the head to check all o-rings, its a used head, but only had a few hours on it. When I pulled it off I was missing a stud oring, but I can't promise it didn't fall out when I was removing the head. I'll replace o rings, get a new gauge. The bore has to be good, he went to gap the rings right infront of me and they were perfectly gapped. Both cyl were perfect. I have a stroker plate in, I'm not supposed to run a gasket with them correct? Just yamabond on both sides.. or so I was told? If the squish clearance was .030 then I couldn't be running stroker domes ontop of the stroker plate right? the squish wouldn't even be close....?

i m reading through your posts and laughing cause your doing about everything worng that one could imagine . did jim put this engine together or did yo ujust send hi m the parts to modfiy ? a 20$ compressio n tester is usually pure shit and your probably not even testing it right . your jetting should be around 155 mains and like a 50 pilot ,yo u probably have a a electrical problem

an engine only needs 3 things to run so go down the list and see if it has ...ignition/spark , compression, and fuel (carbs) is your woodruff key shearered partially and throwing off an erratic spark ? are the reeds in correctly? your flywheel would have to be really fucked up to not satrt .did yo u put this thing together right ?

Yeah, i'm reading through them over and over also, except crying while I read them. I bought the parts of someone who had jim do the work. I wasn't testing compression with carbs open, so I think thats what threw off the reading. I don't know what could be the electrical problem because I'm getting good spark now. I got the pickup coil gap set at .015. Woodruff key is good. Of course I put this thing together right. Not the first time I've built a banshee, not to mention I have my manuals, and the HQ. I'll have the weekend to mess with it. Maybe the mixture was too rich with oil. Maybe a missing oring caused a coolant leak. There's a few things I'd like to try. Keep the ideas comming, I appreciate it.

You would still see spark w/tors problems. Remember w/TORS activated, the quad will run most of the time, it just won't rev. I would be concentrating on the compression issue. You have visible spark, and your plugs are probably getting wet, so you have fuel. Aslo, in my experience, you may find one good compression tester out of 10 cheap ones if you're lucky. Borrow one from someone who has one you know works if possible. And .030 is cutting it pretty close for squish.

How do you know it's .030? Are you taking their word for it, or measuring it yourself.

I agree...ditch the cheap compression tester. Also, make sure you get a tester with threads as long as the spark plugs you're going to put in it...or it won't be accurate. You'll get a lower reading...(you're not filling up all the head volume a spark plug would).

Have you ohm'd the stator and coil?

Jim is a helluva guy, regardless if you bought it off him directly or not, I'm sure he'd be happy to help you either way as well.

No...by the way, no crossover tube for 35PWKs. That is part of the choke or "enrichment" circuit on the stock carbs. Since PWKs each have a choke knob, it's not needed.

You should absolutely do a leakdown test on it. The exaust plugs ca be found at an auto parts store and the rest at a hardware store. If you want Ill set you mine...if I can find it.

do you have any exaust or intake restrictons? any rags? I had a silencer core come apart and block the exaust the other week...to all friggen week of screwin around to find it.

let me know about the tester..

Ok, I first off. Jim has been a great help so far. Seems like he's a pretty busy guys so I've avoided calling him, and been trying to see what you guys think.

Second, all measurements I've given I've measured myself with a feeler gauges.

Third, the cheap gauge probably had something to do with it, but I didn't have the throttle wide open. So I'm sure it read low.

Also, I'm really starting to think the gas I mixed was no good. I mixed c-12 with 20-24:1 Benol, with running the colder plugs, maybe its a bad combonation?

Where should my air screws be at? I just got a new oring kit from Noss for the head. When that comes, I'm going to throw it together and see if I can't get something. I might even try to run like 99 octane 40:1 and see if I can't get it to fire...lol. Thanks for your help guys, I'll get it eventually. It almost because an ebay auction last night... :baseball_bat:

Also, this insert is supposed to go inside the reeds right? Or should I take it out? Like I said I've never ran vforces before this build..

Benol is thick...usually they use it mixed with alky...

40:1 will be fine.

Get some BR8ES

That is the insert that goes in the V Force 3's.

Funny you should mention that...I just got some replacements for them from Cascade today...they're square and don't limit the opening size to that circle...it's wide open almost....

I think they're called Reed Stuffers...not sure though.

Put the stuffers in...that's not your problem!
