skyline_898
ok thanks, you all have been a great help. Dont worry, that wont be the last stupid obvious question i will ask. There will be more. THX
skyline_898
ok here is another stupid question is the carb boot the thing that attaches to the big hole in the carb?
dajogejr
I guess you could say there are two carb boots... The ones we are talking about are in front of the carb, between the small side of the carb and the engine... The other one seals the back of the carb to the air box. Although a leak there isn't good, it more than likely wouldn't cause the idle to raise up....
skyline_898
ok thanks. I am going to check the boots, clean carbs and i will feel really stupid if it was the throttle sticking.
dajogejr
Don't... That's a cheap, easy fix...we've all done!
skyline_898
ok i warmed up my quad and i couldnt find any throttle body cleaner so i used carb cleaner. It didnt raise the idle any but i dont know if that is ok to use. also, when jetting when u buy a kit, if u have to change it again do you have to buy a whole new kit because those are kinda expensive because i only make 25 dollars a week. dajogejr
You do not need a kit. You only need to buy the specific jets you need. 25 a week? I'm going to assume you are a young kid...and your financial business is really none of our business. Save your money...and take it to a repair shop if this is too over your head... This is an expensive sport and habit...you might want to step back and think about how commited you are, and if you can afford it... Oil, plugs and gas for a weekend of riding is more than 25 bucks...
skyline_898
i can get my parents to pay for my gas and oil, but i have to buy any upgrades that i do. my dad also pays for repairs that arent my fault, like this one. if i am doing a wheelie and fall and rip off the fenders then i have 2 pay for it. i can make as mch money as i need. I just have to work more and save up and suck up to my parents
dajogejr
That's a good thing. I admire your parents for helping with what you need, NOT what you want. I had the same thing when I was young and started riding. My old man helped me out...but didn't give me any hand me outs.... Little things like that teach responsibility. The first thing you have to do is take your carbs off. That's free. See what the plugs look like. That's free. Jets are very cheap. You should not have to buy any pilot jets, stock work fine unless you really start to mod your motor... Main jets are about 2 to 3 bucks a piece, and...of course you need two. See how the plugs look... If they are rich...get the next 2 to 3 sizes smaller (lower number) main jets. If they are white and it's lean...do the opposite. Of course, I'll refer to my former statement....get that clymers book before you buy anything else...
