O Ring Kit for Cool Head

Recommended Posts

Yes I see where that was confusing as hell.

I know premix and gear oil have nothing to do with each other.

My question would be.

Is the only lub that the piston gets is from the premix?

How does the crank get lubbed? I would think from the gear oil.

When I bought this thing it had a piston slap so i knew the motor was needing a rebuild.

Do 2 strokes have a little piston slap?

I am wondering if the pennzoil that i used for premix contribute to the top end blowing up.

I am thinking of returning the Bel-Ray Gear saver and getting the Bel-Ray premix.

I was shocked to see the price for a gallon of the Bel-Ray premix. 50 bucks for 1 gallon.

Sorry for the confusion.

Ron

and no i got it for 2000 and i have spent money on it.

New Tires and Rims, Front bumper, Grips, Changed from the shitty screws to stainless Hex's, new rear hubs, and now the new top end.

So far i bet i have dropped 1000 into it sence i have gotten it and over the winter I plan on taking it down to the frame and have it pouder coated along with changing all barrings bushing and all the other stuff along the way.

This is my pride and joy and i plan on having this for a very long time.

OK....sorry for all the confusion..

I was talking to msrpouse about the 1000 bucks he spent on his quad, not yours...

:)

To answer your questions.

The Piston, rings, cylinder, crank and crank bearings get their lube from the oil in the premix.

Only the transmission and clutch get their lube from the gear lube, or tranny oil, or ATF...you get the point.

The two compartments are separated...crankcase and tranny.

I dont' know if you need a gallon of premix. I run Maxima Super M at 40:1, and buy a 64 ounce bottle for about 20 bucks. I THINK that gives me about 18 or 20 gallons of gas... ( I have two 6 gallon cans...so, not 100% sure...:) )

Does this help explain things better?

yes it does thank you very much. I need to find a place that sells Maxima Super M around here. My local dealer doesnt carry that. I bought 3 pints of the bel-ray 2 stroke premix today at 6 bucks per pint. It says to use 32:1 for engines 125cc and smaller and 40:1 for engines 250cc and larger.

Is it safer to mix 32:1?

Honestly, before I built my motor, I ran 32:1.

However, the race gas I must run now is leaded. Leaded fuel does lubricate a little bit...so, I"m runnign 40:1.

I'm not saying you should run Super M, I'm just saying I run it. There are plenty of other quality oils, cheaper and more $$...that work just fine.

Stay away from Crisco...and you're all set...:)

I've heard ATF will work, you just have to change it more often.

So...my question would be, and I'm not trying to be a smart ass...what is the benefit of spending less on the oil, but changing it more often??

I understand you can go to the local auto store and buy ATF all day long, where cycle gear lube is harder to find...but, c'mon...change it before you ride...not while you're riding....

ok now i am really confused. You talked about ATF like that is what you used. All I want to know is which one i should use..lol I just think 7 bucks a quart is a bit much but if that is what i should use then thats what i will use.

Is Bel-Ray Grear saver really that much better?

I've always used Bel Ray gearsaver in my two stroke trannys..

From quads, to CRs, etc.

I can't tell you about ATF...never used it. However, if you search on here, you'll find there are plenty that do.

Personally, I don't mind paying 14 or 15 bucks to change my tranny oil every 3 to 4 rides...

Some people don't want to...and I understand it's a helluva lot cheaper for ATF.

But, like I said, it's never done me wrong, so I'm not going to switch...

Man i finaly got the cylinders from someone on ebay and man was i pissed when i saw them. they are worse then the ones i had to begain with. 2 of the bolt holes that hold them on were broke. 2 of the bolt holes that hold on the reeds were cracked. and the cylinder wall itself had a crack in them. The onlything good that came out of this was the guy refunded my money. So now i am waiting for limegreen780 to respond to my pm so i can get them from him. This is driving me crazy that i cant ride it. But in the mean time i have polished everything that can be polished. This was my excuse to strip the paint off the clutch cover and polish it.

Maybe by next weekend it will be ready.
