sheewanter
We are about to do some motor work and we hear people talking about running cam II and also just talked to this dude in shamokin and he said he was running av fuel.....also i hear that the vp racing fuel will loose its octane rating just sitting there if you do not use it right away...lemme know what you guys think about these three different fuels....apreciated!!! chase@miamiatv.com
more compression , better gas needed to make enough combustion.... try a search option ... i use vp and i use it too fast to go bad........
Ducman
The most important thing is to know what octane you require and buy fuel accordingly. When people talk about AV gas they typically mean 100LL which is around 100 - 101 octane. That is not enough octane for some motors. VP C12 is 112 octane and is expensive and C-16 is 116 octane and like at least $8 gal. If you only need 100 octane then just run AV gas. If you need 110 then get some, I paid $5.75/gal for "76" brand 110, VP C-12 will cost you a lot more. As far a storing gas, just make sure it is in an air tight sealed container and in cool temperatures and not exposed to the sun. If the light part of the fuel evaporates it will decrease performance. I believe most race fuels will store longer than typical pump fuel. I wouldn't try not to store it longer than 6 monthes though.
ElDiablo52
AV gas is good if you need something in the 100 octane range like said above, however its not as easy to get anymore, most airports are FFA regulated and according to their regulations you cant sell AV gas to anyone using t for anything other then an airplane. I know ive tried and also made the mistake of telling them I wanted it to run in my ATV, so maybe if you lie and say you need it for an ultralight or something they may sell it to you. I know a 5 gal drum of VP c-12 here goes for about 55 dollars so its over 10bucks a gal. I almost cry when I go to the pump to buy 93 at over 3 dollars a gal. There were interested as hell in the shee and asking me all kinds of questions about it. Guess it depends on where you live then.
dajogejr
Octane does drop off slightly the longer it sits. However...since race gas does not sell like normal pump gas, additives are added (hence the name additives...) to make it stay fresh longer. I just read a bottle of Klotz octane boost yesterday, and 1 ounce to a gallon raises your octane 2.5 pts. It ALSO says it will keep the gas fresh longer... My .02... sheefreak
I use Cam 2 w/195 lbs of compression. Is rated for 16:1 compression ratio which should cover just about anything you want to do to a Shee. VP is the only one that guarentees their octane rating, and as far as VP losing octane, it is going to be one of the best as far as not losing it. Pump gas loses approximately 1 octane point per 30 days of sitting.
ElDiablo52
Like I said you have to watch getting it at airports, MOST are FFA regulated and they arent allowed to sell AV gas to anyone that is not putting it into a plane, however Im sure there are airports that can or dont care. I just know the place I tried shut us down. and Ive heard a few other people deal with the same stuff at other airports

I dont think they really care what the gas is being used for they just dont let average joe out on the tarmac.
rocketboy
the regulation says it must not be used for highway road use ,not that it must be used in airplanes only ,most airports who know this will allow yo u to purchase 100LL
