chris642
Heres a compression release, i was looking for one since i want to get a CR 500 soon and i saw this on ebay. I guess you will have to contact the seller becasue that auction ended a while back, i bet they would hook you up. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
WALLACE84
Just wear riding boots when you start it. I have a 500 and so does my step dad. Plus you will get used to it after a while
rocketboy
ive ported cr500's and theres a way to add 2 decompression grooves above the exhaust port to make starting way easier and yo u really dont need any fancy expensive breakable unit machined into the cylinder
txblueshee
There's a trick to kicking over the high comp. bikes... 3-4 slow kicks with nothing but the gas on... then about 1/4 kick to set it at basically tdc... then just drop your foot... I've kick started a harley that way..... If it's that hard to kick over something is prolly catching... ie: piston ring.. You said the kickstarter is kinda rigged..... maybe you have a leverage problem? Mike
trinityshee
thanks guys for the replys , yeah the kicker is rigged bad the guy around me races these bikes and says i can get a kicker that was modified for this swap for 50 bucks so ill get that and try that starting method u gave me i also contacted the ebay seller about the kit thanks again dave
chase@miamiatv.com
heh like the guy says on ebay ''come on girls, you know you wish those 250's were easier to kick! " i agree my 1983 250r with 190psi breaks my foot and then sometimes i hit my nee on the handlebars on the recoil and im injured before i even get the motor started . I can relate to your rig my " 250r" is in a 200x frame all rigged up with more zip ties then you can find at all your local hardware stores combined. reded
CR 500's are not hard to start, KTM 550's on the other hand will give ya a run for your money.
trinityshee
yeah i hear you on the ktms i had a exc 300(the one in my avatar) with a milled head that had 240 psi if u didnt start it on the second kick call it a day
superdave
I have had two cr500.....always easy to start. Put it in second gear get off the quad and rock it back and forth in gear. As the motor goes up and down while in gear it pulls in fuel...charges the cylinder....then it will start with one kick...good luck..D
2bzy2p
have fun with your cr motor vibrating your frame apart and keeping it from cracking,, no counterbalencer in most dirtbike motors!!
sp1tekiller
yeah i hear you on the ktms i had a exc 300(the one in my avatar) with a milled head that had 240 psi if u didnt start it on the second kick call it a day 513883[/snapback] No, that is easy to whirl compared to a 550. The KTM 550 is a 2 stroke with a left side kicker. A nightmare. http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/463084/
