420_Big_Bore
I'm about to go dragging tomorrow but i just need an opinion. I have a 420 bigbore banshee etc with 22x11x8 pro wedge 2's and currently running 41 rear sproket and 15 front. Is this ok? or what gearing do you guys recommend. It's 200-250m dirt drag strip. Blue Duece
id up the 15 to at least a 17 counter sprocket
420_Big_Bore
I was thinking to a 14 because wouldnt a 17 lag the bike.Plus wouldnt the pro wedge act as an extra gear as they balloon up. Like bog in holeshot and possibbly the bike will cross the finish line and still have more power left. I would want it to just cross the line at full power. But im not sure. Blue Duece
naw im thinking your gears will stretch and pull like a son of a bitch, and you'll shift a lot less, providing your motor will pull the taller gear, your top speed will be a 100 mph rather than 70 mph, guys that drag have 100+ ponies and run a 18/38....... 420_Big_Bore
That makes sense. But i have tried a 16 on the front and it wont fit, would i need to modify the casing? And do i need the alter the back sproket or leave it 41?
Blue Duece
yeah an 18 will fit, just take the chain off then the sprocket, then put your 16 on, then the chain, if you have a stock swing arm and a fresh chain you might need to add a extra chain link, im not sure, if not youll hook that much better your axle will be closer to your motor, the 16 will pull twice as hard as the 15 again providing your motor has some balls

420_Big_Bore
Yeh plenty of shutdown space. Today turned out ok. I did wipe out all the 450's and a few banshees but there is a problem. I can't take off in 2nd, as it bogs, and when i cross the finish line i am in 5th gear, with an extra gear to go. Would lifting the back to a 42 help? Ps:i am running 15-41 Edited May 6, 2006 by 420_Big_Bore
23champ
I wouldnt worry about shiftin to 6th. Gear your bike for 1-5. 6th is a long jump from 5th....could make you bog.
rocketboy
if yo u have a ported 420 and yo u bog off the line in second gear with only a 15 front sprocket theres a problem , an mild 350 could launch in second easily with that gearing in dirt.
