Satsol67
Hi eveyone. I am having a problem with my 2000 Banshee 350 and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I have to dump fuel in the head to get it started when it is cold. After it fires the first time it will fire right up. I am thinking it might be a problem with the rings. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you
dajogejr
I would buy a good compression tester (Name brand, not cheapie junk one) and test your compression. Anything more than 10% difference between the two cylinders and/or less than 100PSI means it's rebuild time. A good machine/engine shop should be able to Mic (measure) the cylinders and pistons to see if they are past wear limits...or if they can be re-used and re-rung. DIRTMAN350
Just wondering if you are using your choke???? Also i'm sure you have heard this before but is your gas turned on? Might want to think about a clymers manual for your shee. I just got one and it is way better than the oem service manual.
Satsol67
I will get a good compression tester. I was just wondering if that would cause the cold start problems. I have only had this 2 weeks now and I dont know any of the history. The guy that had this before me had no clue and should have never owned this in the first place. I do plan and rebuilding the motor I just would like to get through the summer. As for the cross over tube yes it is there. All in all it runs good. When I get done with it, it will be one sweet machine! The owner before the one i got this from took care of it. Did mods to it like lone star front end, Cool head, Toomey pipes, extended swing arm. Satsol67
Yes i tried the choke and no luck. As for the gas being on once it is running i ride the hell out of it. So if the gas was off I dont think I would be able to do that. I agree about the manual. I have the OEM one and it blows. Time for a good one. DIRTMAN350
I just thought i would bring it up because some people think too hard about it and froget all about the gas being turned on. I didn't to disrespect ya. Sorry man.
Satsol67
its all good man. Nice ride you have there. I see you have a temp gauge on it. That was something I was wondering if could be done. I found were to get it from. How do you like yours? I am a newbie when it comes to the shee's. I have some newbie questions like. What should I be mixing the gas at? I have been mixing it 31:1. I know the motor needs to be rebuild. Barings anyhow. It has a knock to it I dont like. I think this chain is a little to loose. But I dont see how to tighen it up. Goes back to needing a good manual. The OEM isnt much help.
batoutofshell
the chain adjusters are on the back axle in the rear of the bike you have to loosen the axle swing bolts abd loosen the lock nuts then screw them in they have to be turned the same amount ( count your threads ) or the axle will be turned one way too much and It will dogleg while riding. sheefreak
Yes, low compression will cause problems w/ cold starts. I would check the compression. Check your bowls to see if they were ever reversed. I see it was mentioned above, but not explained to you. If you put the bowls on the wrong carb(they will fit, and even look the same) the choke will not work properly. In the bottom of the bowl they are numbered, 1-1, and 1-2. 1-1 goes on the left side or side w/choke pull.
Satsol67
I checked the carb bowels and they are put on right. Time for the manual.
FIRST BANSHEE
a plugged pilot jet will cause a cold start problem. bad reeds will also cause a cold start problem Edited May 7, 2006 by FIRST BANSHEE
Satsol67
HOw do you test the reeds to see if they are bad? When I got it i noticed that one of the bolts were loose so i pulled off both reeds and looked at them. I did see anything wrong with them.
