RNBRAD
Like Travis said, when you build a box it is sooo important to partition between the subs. Two subs of the same model are never created nor perform equally. When you use the same air space for both they will work against each other to a small degree which is definitely audible. I see people time after time build a half ass box and then blame the sub for poor performance. 9 times out of 10 it is the box. If anyone builds a box, it should be braced front to back in at least 2 places per sub. I also use 3m rubberized undercoating and spray an 1/8 to 1/4 inch layer over the entire interior surface of the box. You should be able to push in on the cone of your sub for 5 seconds, in a sealed enclosure, and it should immediatly rebound back. If it moves slowly back to the front, you do not have a complete seal. This makes a huge difference. This is not always easy to achieve but if you want the best performance your sub is capable of, then give it the best box to do so.

DIRTMAN350
I run 2 12in alpine type r's and like the alot. Need more power for them but what the hell. That way i will not blow them up.
Justintoxicated
The only ones I'm considering right now are DLS Neodiums, Iridiums or Adire Kodas. Almost could fit some ARC Audio subs. I have to have something with good SQ that will sound better than a W6 but fit in 1/3rd the space... If I wasent space limited then I would definately be getting the new RE XXX. But that might be too loud for my taste. Fuck all that JL, Alpine Type R crap. And a BIG FU to SONY Explode.. All about SQ for me,im tired of my old JL system that just made alot of noise. RNBRAD
If you want no compromise SQ, don't pass up listening to Focal utops, Seas and Accuton drivers. For subs, I would give my left nut to find a pair of the velodyne servo 12's. Best sq sub ever made for a car. I also loved the old infinity beta subs, man they were killer. They just don't make them like they use to. All the focus has gone to spl. Amps, of course Mcintosh takes the cake with the higher end Audison a close second. Otherwise the best the car audio industry has to offer for sq has come and gone.
shanYE west
I use 4 old 10" Eclipse 8800 Aluminum subs hooked to 2 old DEI 1100d's. SQ is great with really low extension. I'd like to get some new subs but I got other hobbies now. Cant afford 4 new subs @ $400 bucks each, plus the amps to power them. I'm through that phase. If I get anything new for my car it would be a 3-way componet set. I fell in love with the Boston Pro-series 3-way about 6yrs ago. I dont think they make it anymore and from what I hear Boston went down hill.. If your tight on space I dont know if they still make them or not but Illusion audio had some subs out that mounted the magnet structure on the front side of the woofer to save on displacement in the box. pretty trick lookin sub built for SQ. This was around 8 yrs ago. I quit installing and I'm not up to date on alot of the new equipment.

Mcintosh made some killer amps, I haven't seen them around in years. I remember when velodyne came out with that 13" inch sub, got to hear it at a local shop and the quality was absolutely amazing. They had it paired up with the inifinity kappa series components and I was blown away. I also was a fan of the image dynamics wave guide horns that you install under each side of the dash. Only saw one install with them but boy did it sound gooooood
Justintoxicated
your right BB, but DLS Iridiums / Nobelium are right up there in SQ IMO better than focal, I can't afford the seas / rainbow high end stuff, but I got a hookup on the DLS. I wouldnet pay the 1000 for the front I have either, but since I get a deal Not really a fan of infinity Kap comps they pretty much suck compared to alot of other stuff. DLS amps are supposed to be pretty good, but they are too large to work with for my truck, at least I would prefer something smaller, and I'm not sure I really need A/B amp for the sub since I don't really want to upgrade my truck alternator just yet either. I also heard Arc Audio amps are some of the best out right now but I have not heard either. I love my components (Iridiums) and would love to try the new Nobeliums but I think they retail at about $1800 for the 2-way set...ouch... http://www.dls.se Wanted to add I will never buy anotehr Bandpass box again either, they are the absolute worst when it comes to Sound Quality, they don't even cover teh entire sound range and emphesize certain parts. Maybe for a Db Comp, but for good sounding nope. (not to say my JL's in bandpass didn't sound better than some other subs I heard in sealed boxes ) Edited May 4, 2006 by Justintoxicated

They have priced themselves in the exclusive range just as they did with their home audio gear. I will never own another amp as long as I can continue to afford them or something better comes along. floyd398
My first set of subs 12 years ago were 12'' orion xtr dvc's at 800 watts a piece max. they sounded pretty good in my bandpass...they had nice lows and highs. Right now I'm runnin, JL 12 W3 D4's in a sealed JL Box. They hit hard They're only powered with a 1000watt Kendwood amp but sound good. For components, I've got Boston Acoustics, runnin of a Kenwood 800watt amp..nice and clear good mids too.
99Banshee
What would be good for a reg cab GMC truck.. Not much room behind the seat.. bigboybanshee
Not really a fan of infinity Kap comps they pretty much suck compared to alot of other stuff. 511899 They're definitely not my first choice either, but when you have them running off the right head unit, and are being pushed with the right amp, they sound damn good I've always been a fan of MB Quart, I've got their competition series components in my car...running off an Alpine deck and Phoenix Gold amps. There are plenty of setups I'd "rather" run...but can't afford half of them We all don't have deep pockets like ol ellison445 What would be good for a reg cab GMC truck.. ellison445
Im only running beymas off a 800@4 rockford fasgate My System right now is great, But after a while you get tired of the same thing There are plenty of setups I'd "rather" run...but can't afford half of them We all don't have deep pockets like ol ellison445 That depends on how much space you're willing to give up 512324
