Yaxy
I am looking for recommendations on reasonable hotels/motels in a good safe neighbor hood within 30 minutes of Silver Lake. A quick list with phone numbers would be helpful? Also: In regards to the noise ordanance when you say sparkys, do you mean silencers? One quad has FMF, one has Rockets. Thanks Chris Edited May 2, 2006 by Chris Yax

sheefreak
You can stay right down the road from the dune entrance, Sands Motel I believe it is called. Not cheap, but not expensive, around $100 bucks a night. W/ the cost of gas, you drive anywhere towing a trailer and it is going to cost you more money. Sparkys does not mean silencers. Now it is possible the FMF's have silencers w/spark aresstors in them. Look for USFS approved on the silencer. Or stick a rod in the end of the silencer and see if anything stops it from going right in. I don't think the rocket silencers were ever made w/spark arrestors in them. Someone else will chime in if I am wrong. Sparkys are a universal adaptable spark arrestor that connects to the end of your silencer. They run about $70 a piece. I have a set that will fit the oval FMF silencers for $80 shipped if you want them. Still in great shape, just a lil dirty. You can buy the Sparkys at the parts store next to the dunes if you wish. The rockets are going to require a round opening Sparky of course, that I don't have. Edited May 2, 2006 by sheefreak

Yaxy
Thanks eveyone for your help. The closer to Silver lake the better. I checked out www.silverlakesanddunes.com and will make some phone calls. Hopefuilly I can get something cheaper than $100 or if I can find some hotties to shack up with that would be even better. In regards to the sparky's, at this time I have a set I can borrow for the rockets and if I repack my FMF's they are to quiet. Are the sparky's required for sound to meet the required db or are they afraid the sand will catch on fire? I am trying to keep the cost of this trip to a min. It is about 700 miles one way and at 10 MPG towing this is going to be one expensive trip. I think I need to get some more people to help share this cost. banshdog
The more people the easier it is on your wallet, thats for sure. Hotels in town are expensive if i remember, but pitching a tent at the state campground will only run you about $18 The Sparky's are not for sound, they are to keep the sand from catching on fire but you must have them (or some other form of spark arrester) When are you going out there? Yaxy
Thanks for the reply. I called Sierra Sands last week and they do not see a problem if I called a week or so in advance. However, I plan on calling in the next couple of weeks. At this point we are going either the week of the forth or the week after, depending on the wheather. I would rather go the forth but we will need to see since it is 700 miles to get there. The problem I am seeing is if I reserve the room for the week and change my plans I need to still pay for one night. Of course the other hotel I have to pay for every night if I don't make it.
