piston porting and grooving

I have to say my feelings are hurt someone called me a tool box because i was screwing around trying to be funny, sorry your heinus I thought this was a Banshee board not a young republican party meeting, I promise i will not try to humor anyone any longer, and i bow

Anyway I had our machine shop take my cylinders and new pro lite pistons. Our machinist has had 11 banshees and found the best ways to make it a great woods bike. He took my pistons and grooved the tops to line up with the intake ports so when the piston is bdc it reveals more port, not changing the size of the port therefore not changing velocity. he then shaved the intake and lower in the cylinder at the transfer ports, ported and polished the exhaust, and milled the head .030. I rode one of his that had this done and it was amazing.

i picked the motor up yesterday and installed it and was amazed at the difference, this was outstanding. (i have v force 3, reed spacers, boost bottle, and t6s) I can not believe the power of this, the best part being his personal bike has been together for 7 years, and he showed me he pistons after still looked good,

2 questions how long do you know to extend swing arms, is there a ratio for hp or is it guesswork for woods riding. i think now it is too light in the front

second anyone else ever channeled the top of a piston

swing arm length is mostly rider prefrence if it is to lite in the front I would go to a +2 or a +4 you dont want to go much over this if you are gonna be riding in tight trails, just rember the longer the swinger the more it is gonna want to push through the corners. also viteos has been cutting pistions like that for a while now.

thanks sir it kind of embarassing the few mods i have compared to all the stuff i read about in here it seems like most people here in cincinnati just do cool head and pipes. the guy that does our machine work had some wild stuff but nothing like cheetah motors and the sort.

lets all say we have ridden on stock banshees, and banshees with pipes, huge difference -- what are they like with a +4 crank and cheetah motor.

i cant imagine what they are like factory is around 45hp i am guessing that i am around 50hp. (maybe!) so what are these monster motors 70 100hp

what is it like to ride

stock i only about 35 HP at the wheels, pipes bring it up around 45.

The general consensus on the forum seems to be that porting postons is not a ood idea as the gains are minimal and it weakens the piston. (why people prefer weisco over Vitos. Not saying you will have problems with it though, just that there are easier ways to gain a little power like a timing plate.

If you want a woods bike I don't think I would lengthen the swingarm, just change your gearing, or lean forward more to keep the front end down.

I agree on the piston porting.I did that with two sets of pistons and broke the skirts in a year. From the seat of the pants i did not notice any difference just by slipping the piston in as is.

I would definitely not go over a +2 swinger for a tail banshee. If you go +4 it will be very hard to get the front off the ground no mater how much power you are making because you'll just spin the tires. You wont like it. Now in the sand with paddles and an extended swinger is a whole different story.

i am not speaking of porting the bottom of the pistons, i am talking about notching the top of the pistons to allow for the piston to not cover any port are a bdc. i know there are points to every side, just wanted some opinions i feel a major improvement in the overall ride,--for most of you in comparison my bike would feel like a barbie powerwheels jeep

maybe push the front end out a couplla inches and shorten the ass end an inch or two?, having good front end lift is essentional if you wanna haul ass over any obsticle, if you turn your banshee into a station wagon you'll take a beating if you try to fly on the trails

lets just say when this thing hooks up, its like getting kicked in the ass by a freight train going 80mph, even with an 8 over swing arm I still have to fight to keep the front end down :D:bolt: my bikestarted out completely stock, then went to the bolt ons, got board with that so I bought a bigbore kit, still was not fast enough so I bought what I have now. wish I would have done it first would have been cheaper but it has been fun trying difernt things to see what works and what does not.

vito's super stock pistons are probally similar to what your talking about .they have a section right on top michined down on the exhaust side.we've used them in stock motors with no porting and they deffinately made a noticable power increase.

I will second that after seeing his bike run in person. It is the benchmark I gauge the other banshees at Silver Lake with...

Granted, he got beat (not by much) by a Hayabusa powered banshee when we were all there last year....that's not even the same class. However...he's done more to his shee since then...so, it might be a different story now.

After seeing BadAss's bike run, I was sold on a 4 mil cub setup.

Granted...I will not be going drag port, 39 carbs or drag pipes for a while....I know I'll have a rocket on my hands ...if I ever get her running...:)
