Petesbigtoys
I have a 01 that runs great on idle and thru the mid range, but seems to be really flat on the top. Like its not getting enought fuel or air. I'm running T-5's,+2 timing, new top end (.20 over), Gorr porting, srp cdi, Cool head 19cc domes, K&N pod filters, V-Force 3 reeds, CPW 30mm Carbs. Now here is where it gets goofy. On the carbs the slides don't open all the way up,there is not enought room in the neck,Second I ride at 1300ft,so I thought 160 mains were a good start, and the plugs looked nice and brown, but I wanted to see how high I could go, now I'm at 178 and the plugs are just a little bit darker brown.Mixing at 36to1. The air screws don't do anything, .5 to 4 turns it runs the same. It starts great, idles great, revs quick, low to mid runs perfect, no misses or lag, then hits the top and I get passed by 450's.Tried +4 timing still the same.No air leaks, clip in 4th position. Would really like some help.

bansheeseat$$
Wow,You should be killing 450's.My next thought is porting is the "gor porting" for bottom and mid power? If it is there's your problem. My o4 shee kills 450's and there is no internal engine work at all. trex banshee
I would go back to your 160 main. how did it run with them in? 178 sounds a little rich to me. I am at 1000ft and i had 140's in my 35's when i was on gas. Edited April 18, 2006 by trex banshee
Petesbigtoys
Eric did the more everywhere porting, with more on the top end. It runs the same with 160s or 178s, just like it wants more fuel and air. Will 34pj's be to big?
broke
I would first try to figure out why the carbs won't open all the way. You seem really rich to me. I have a pretty built bike and run a 155 at sea level with slightly brown plugs.
Petesbigtoys
The slides are longer than the neck, about 1/2" hangs down. Cpw said that it was normal. ???? I think 178s are way rich too, but the plugs chop says it isint. Medium brown.

Petesbigtoys
I could loose alot of bottom end. I need more on the top.
bansheeseat$$
You may also get different pipes,I use cpi inframes,They have ok bottom end but the mid and top on these pipes rip.
Petesbigtoys
Pipes might be the answer, I had FMf sst before and could beat 450s.
bansheeseat$$
Toomeys are really good pipes but they don't have alot of top end like what your looking for.
Wicked98Shee
if the slides dont open all the way your not getting maximun flow and major turbulence at wot, in theory causing a rich mix at wot. i'd ditch the carbs and go with some 33pwk's. ya should have plenty of top end with the toomey pipes ... cpi, shearer would be better, but the toomey's should run strong tho .... if you are running off the top of ur pipes ... it'll put hard as a bitch then as you get close to topping out the revs it'll fall fall on its face. the gorr everywhere port should be fine with just about any decent aftermarket pipe.
