Shearer Pipes

Hey guys,

I often see people asking about Shearer pipes, how they look, how they fit, etc. I just recently switched from Rocket pipes to Shearer. I took the advice of Jim from Passion Racing.

What can I say about them? I would describe the actual quality of the pipes as "good". The welds are clean and straight. The aluminum welds on the silencers are close to the perfect "roll of dimes". The fit was "good". I didn' have to SHIM anything. I didn't have to bend anything. They bolted right up. The pipes clear everything, including the air filters! They leave plenty of room for my K&N pods without coming close to melting my outerwears. THe downside is that they can not be run with an airbox.

The only beef I have with the pipes is the chrome. The chrome is a really cheasy 2 layer, industrial grade, flash chrome. I Have wrenches with a deeper luster. Ultimately, I'd recommend getting these pipes raw, in steel, and then having them custom triple plated. A good show chromer would have made these pipes look amazing.

I Have no comment on their performance. There are plenty of other people who have commented on how they run, so I don't need to rehash.

Take Care,

BG

  • 1 month later...

I just got mt set yesterday to replace my T-6's on my cub motor, and they fit just as well if not a little better than the t-6's. Had NO issues at all with the install, they are a little louder than the T-6's but not very much. But as you stated the chrome could be better but hey I got them for the perfromnce factor I guess thats why the Shearers are less money than the Toomey's etc because the dont put as much into the look of the pipes. But overall they are awsome.

You can get the finish in 3 flavors.

Bare

Production Chrome

Show Chrome

I think bares run about 415 shipped, production 475 shipped, and the show chrome 570. Cascade Innovations sells the show chrome ones. They aren't a true "show chrome", but the finish is much better then the production stuff, probably on par with cpi's chrome.

My left pipe fits like crap and I gotta really tweak on the spacing and bolt tightening sequence to get the pipe to not rub on the top of my head. The performance is worth the mechanical shortcomings though

To the Thread Starter, are you sure the left pipe is clearing the head?

How do you like the way the silencers bolt up in the rear? is there any dampening like other pipes?

The Chrome really does suck from what I have sceen. The "show" chrome is not that great either. For me getting them bare and adding chrome adds about $300 to the cost > $700.

i must have got lucky on mine because i had no problems at all and the production chrome looked really good ,better than fmf ,ct, pro circuit etc.. the power gains are awesome and for a ported engine they perform like no ther pipe o nthe market,i sold mine only to get some small bore shearer 2 out 1 side out of frames :bolt: ,7 weeks and still waiting banghead but itll be worth it

Yea the finish is better than nickle plated pipes IMO too, but for a chrome pipe it is not very good. Dunedeamons Shearers looked decent though, not sure if he had the show chrome version or not.

My left pipe leaks at the motor side and is loos compared to the right. Need new springs maybe??

what i learn is put an extra set of o rings on the cylinders first then put the pipes on. it will form a gasket and not leak.

for the pipe hitting the head i did this.

on both side to keep them away from the jugs and what not.
