biggun6ss
Just ordered some from magic racing. Anyone know if the springs that come with the kit are stiffer than stock? If so, would it hurt to alterante the stiffer springs with the stock springs?
BigCP
i bought one from them before, it came with heavy duty springs and also with some lighter ones in the kit. it worked pretty well and i heard of some people alternating the springs with 3 heavy duty ones and 3 regular. milo_32000
Why would you put heavy and soft together ? Not trying to be a smart ass, just want to know why ! Is it too much lever pull ? Milo_32000
race-a-holic
Yes,with the heavy duty springs the lever can be harder to pull.I've used barnetts in the past. They are a good clutch.I used all the heavy springs although I have heard of people alternating them. Wallrat
Barnett's are only good up to about 60HP. Once you get into strokers, big bores, or drag ports you need a better clutch. Yes the new springs are heavier. Yes you can alternate springs.

ledofthezep
I've had no problems with them, big step up from stock(but what isn't?),, haven't tried any others to compare.

That's why some people use, 3 stock springs and 3 HD springs, that way you don't make the cluth lever that hard to pull. On the other hand, if you are going to race all weekend, you better make sure you have all 6 HD springs, you can even use washers to preload the springs and get better friction out of your clutch

When I had my dune port, my bike dynoed at 59hp. I put a brand new barnett with the heavy springs in (after I soaked the clutch for about a day) when I put the motor together. That clutch lasted for about 4hrs...incuding breaking the new motor in. I'll never buy another barnett again. Waste of money!
RNBRAD
I used the barnett's with my last motor. I thought they were a pretty good clutch cause I did'nt have or experience any slippage. I had about 4 hours use on them and that's it. When I did my cub build I thought I would continue to use the barnett's since they were still new. Nope things were almost gone, wore smooth with no grooves. I couldn't believe it. I use Jeff's system now and my oil isn't all muddied up like the barnett's would do. BigCP
i might also add that i switched from a barnett to the f.a.s.t. clutch that jeff sells and i could tell a major difference between this one and the barnett although all of my riding buddies swear by barnett and from what i have seen really haven't had any major problems as of yet. BansheeBruce
I'm at 65 hp and went thru a Barnett in the first ride. Get a Tusk or a stocker.
Justintoxicated
I have Barnett Springs I tried alternating them but ended up with all HD springs. With good oil Bel-Ray I don't really have any poblems. I have not dynoed my banshee but it should be over 60Hp. I have the stock clutch though not Barnett. When I used Golden Spectro Tranny Oil There was some slippage even with all HD springs. Those of you toasting the clutch what oil were you using?
