txblueshee Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 I'm sorry... It's been a while since I read up on that.. it's actually oxygenated fuels... and yes.. it builts up deposits... basically oxidises your motor... Mike Quote
Big Blue Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 I get cam 2 for just over 200 for 55 gallon drum(little less than $4 a gallon). 498847 Where at?????????????? Quote
DSSA Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 that depends on if the race fuel is oxygenated ... oxygenated race fuel will definately give ya better throttle response and a slight amount of hp for ya. where as non oxygenated race fuel is only good if our running enough compression or a bit of timing advance. but remember higher octane does cause the combustion chamber to run cooler, so all in all its up to you if it's worth it or not. 498900 In most places, regular pump gas is oxygenated. But, yes, cooler combustion chamber temperatures will be often seen from running high octane. Why? Because it doesn't burn as efficiently as lower octane fuels. End result, too high of octane will cause performance LOSS, not gain. Unless you have the compression/timing advance to need race fuel, it's not gonna gain you a damn thing. A lot of people think "Higher Octane=Higher Power" when it's simply not correct. Octane is a measure of detonation resistance--not power ability. You want gas to ignite and burn. The higher the octane rating (anti-knock index) the more the fuel resists ignition. Once again boils down to my original statement. Unless you running high compression (static or mechanical) or increase the timing, race gas will do nothing for you. I'll add to that: Race gas used when not *needed* can actually cause power LOSS. I've run C16 or VP import in 2.0 liter cars running 30+ psi and putting out 500+ whp, since the late 90s. Back before using standalone ECUs and being able to adjust the timing maps to compensate for even higher Octance-rated fuels, I'd see drops in MPH/Dyno figures. A stock Banshee has no need for higher-then-pump gas Octane. Quote
lonestar Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 For best performance use the lowest octane for your set up. Quote
squish Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Been using avgas for years and its leaded. Quote
race-a-holic Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Alcohol is cheaper but alcohol bikes sure are thirsty.Mine is anyways so cost wise it's about the same.If you've ever seen a alcohol jet compared to a gas jet you'll know why they're sooooo thirsty. Purging my bike isn't a big deal but there is times I get home and wish I could just throw it in the shop.If I run race gas I could though. For a drag bike, alcohol is worth it.For a play bike,I'd stick with gas. Some of the money you guys have to give for it though is just insane. What do they think they're selling,Gold? Quote
helldriver Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 i use Klotz racing fuel, they have it from 100-114 octane i think, i get it at the races for about 40 bucks for 5 gallons Quote
sheefreak Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Where at?????????????? 498951 Get it from a local race shop down the road. They are into circle track and I think they buy a lot of it for a lot of the other local racers at the track. Quote
BansheeBrian Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Last year i payed in conn $7.00 a gallon. I hate to see whats it up to this year. This is for cam-2 -110 octane 498855 Over in Newtown I can get 118 out of the pump.Orsini Cycle in Waterbury carries the cans for every octane. Quote
jeepman380 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Leaded gas doesn't hurt a thing...if anything it helps. I wouldn't run it in your car though cause it will ruin your O2 sensors. Quote
odaen Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I run 111 octane leaded race gas. can get it for $5 a gallon, or $4.50 a gallon by the drum Quote

My best friend works at a performance shop and his boss and I got into the whole need or not need. Hit it on the head from what he told me. I belive he sells Sunoco 112 and it up to 6 bucks a gallon. No better deal buying by the drum . RIPPEN Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 At my local gas pump 110 is $4.25, I remember when it was under $3. Quote

kb01shee Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Vp-110 is 6.80 by the 5 gal pal and 5.80 by the drum around here. That is the best deal I could find. Sonoco 110 is just a little bit more. Quote
