broke
The last time I had this out, it ran great, then the clutch started to fade. Within a few miles the clutch locked up completely. I had to start it in gear and drive back to the truck. I originally thought the rod and ball had become one. When I pulled it apart, everything looks fine. The only thing that even shows that anything happened is you can see some serious blueing on the steels from the heat. The entire motor only has about 4 hours on it. Has anybody had there steels "feel" like the seized to the fibers, I pretty much had to peel the whole stack apart. I've never seen anything like this. broke
Fibers, steels, springs and cable were all new when the motor was built. They have about four hours on them total. I don't mind buying new parts, but I would at least like to figure out what cooked these ones first. I would hate to burn through $100 in clutch parts every 4 hours constantly. chase@miamiatv.com
not sure what cooked them just make sure the adjustment screw in the center of the clkutch plate is adjusted right , maybe that has a factor with it ? just my
banshee tuner
The freeplay might not been adjusted right on the cable.
scotts96fast
Who's clutch are you running?I smoked a dirtdigger clutch in a afternoon and they where really black and blue, but not welded together like yours.I put a FAST clutch in,but didn't ride yet. Like said above if the freeplay was out of wack,or worn inner hub and prussure plate with new clutches that could be a problem.
broke
It is a FAST clutch. Free play was at least the minimum amount. Arrows ligned up between the cases and clutch arm. I am kind of leaning toward the worn pressure plate, the inner hub is new.
shanYE west
I had this problem once, I put a brand new clutch in from duncan racing and the clutch started hanging up on me. So I went through the clutch again and readjusted everything again and It still did it. I took out the new duncan clutch and put in my old dirt digger and it still did it.. by this Time I was gettin pissed. I made some calls and it turns out it was my new clutch perch and lever.. I bought a magnum EZ pull lever and perch and I guess the universal design dosn't have the correct pull. I put my stock perch back on and it worked perfect again... dont know if you changed the perch recently but this was my problem Anyone try the ASV perch and lever sets? Old Two-Smoke
You dont say if your running a high HP engine or not. What oil are you running? If it was new and wasnt properly oil soaked to start with, you most likely smoked it right away and after that it gave up all together..Also make sure the pressure plate isnt warped.. Wallrat
I smoked a brand new dirt digger in about 6 hours so it can happen. Replaced it and seems to be working fine.
broke
Thanks for all the responses. You dont say if your running a high HP engine or not. What oil are you running? It's a 12 port +4 RZ motor. Not real high performance, but not stock either. I would guess it around 70hp give or take a few. is the clutch basket grooved or anything as well? It's lightly grooved, but it may be time to just bite the bullet and get a billet one.
