Banshee vs Raptor?

Which is better suited for trail riding?

This might not be the best forum to place this question but hopefully I can get some none bias feed back. I want a bike that will be probably be ridden equally on the trails and raced. Raced - for me is keeping up with the pack no drag & definately not for cash.

Also maintence is an issue an up keep is an issue.

Here's my options 03 Shee that is race ready, well maintaned vs an 03 Raptor that has barely been riden.

I am a female if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Depends on your skill in riding and what you call "trails".. If it involves tight turns and mud.. than I would go with the raptor.. (The 700r?)

If it is dirt and sand and you are an experienced rider.. I would go with the raptor..

Over all the raptor is a more "trail bike" due to its enormous torque and the ability to go in reverse..

But if you want to truly have fun and go fast (if you like to haul ass) than go with the shee..

 Hope this works for you

i'll give u my advice as a "newbie" to quads...i have a honda 400ex, which doesnt come close to a raptor or shee. i ride on trails with a friend who has a '91 shee and we both can stay together (i can keep up) easily. wen it comes to speed, like just busting out for a long time...i'm sure the shee has me beat. i would say again, like others say, know ur skill level. if ur not that expert with quads than stick with the raptor...thats an awesome quad (one that i luv) and u'll keep up fine. if ur gutsy/experienced in the quad arena...than try the shee and see if its wat u want. but from wat i've heard, if u've never ridden a shee than test it before u buy it.....may be too much to handle and enjoy.

thats all i can offer as a beginner here. i think ur concern about keeping up wont come down to wat ur riding so much as how u ride it. have fun!!

Seems like you catch on quick ;)

Honestly, trail riding is more about skill than anything else. A pro level GNCC rider could take a stock 400ex and beat all of us on tight trails. Get what you feel most comfortable driving, and you will be fastest. Most of my friends don't like riding my banshee in the woods. They tend to describe it as an unguided rocket, point and gas it. It more than likely will go there, but who knows it may not. I have no problems with it in the woods since Im used to it. The banshee will take more work in the woods though. And If you aren't big enough to pick it up, turning around could be a hassle.

That being said, this is a banshee site, I have a banshee, so of course Im going to say get the banshee (but only if you feel comfortable, its easy to get hurt on one. The a-arms in my avatar are from an encounter with a tree in the woods the week after I got my shee).

I actually had my first chance to compare the two, back-to-back, this past weekend at Pismo Beach/Oceano Dunes.

It was my first dunes trip on my '97 Banshee that I bought last fall. Basically stock, piped and jetted with paddles. Absolutely had a blast on the dunes with the engine running great and the Sand Skate II paddles hooking up very well.

My friend had a brand new (like 3 days new!) Special Edition 700 Raptor that he let me try out. First off, the power delivery was incredibly smooth and controllable, and 2nd, 3rd and even 4th gear wheelies were effortless. A +4 swingarm would be awesome! You could scream up hills at crazy speeds, or crawl up the same slope in 1st almost down to idle. Very forgiving powerband. Piped and jetted (oops, I mean "chipped") the horsepower available would be scary!

Good suspension and ride, and I fit pretty good (I'm 6'3", so the 450 MX quads always feel a little tight). Definitely sits much higher than the Banshee, and might even feel a little top-heavy, but I bet you would get used to it pretty quickly.

The sand was really chopped up due to the heavy President's Day traffic, and the stock suspension wasn't really any more comfortable than the Banshee, but more controllable (better rebound damping?).

Overall: I still love my Banshee, but that Raptor was sweet! Yamaha hasn't drug me over to the Darkside yet, but it's getting harder to resist!

Unless you're going to the dunes or the desert where you can open the Banshee up, I'd say get the Raptor. Much better trail machine, and the fuel injection makes it zero set-up for differences in altitude.

I have a 05 banshee and a 01 raptor. for a girl the raptor all the way, my daughter hates my shee and loves my raptor. Its so easy to ride more grunt in all gears. She says she is always shifting and doesnt like my powerband which hits hard. The raptor is smooth and predictable.

just strictly trails and some dunes , id go with a raptor..but if you want to just haul ass and dune and if the trails are not curvy and tight then you would like the banshee... but , the banshee doesnt like to go slow ,if you do , you would be fouling plugs left and right (literally) :P

I have both. The bikes are so different and require such different riding styles it is a tough question. But I will say this. If I am going to be in the woods, be it trail riding or racing in a WORCS race 9 times out of 10 I am going to take the Raptor.

Now If I am going to the dunes, any Dunes, I am going to take the Banshee. The Banshee loves the sand.

My wife will ride the Banshee only if she has to and she does just fine on it. But put the two side by side and she will take the Raptor every time. She is a great rider and has no problem keeping up with anybody in our large, varied group of riders. She will even put unsuspecting people to shame every now and then on the Raptor.

I wouldn't recommend the banshee for woman to try and trail ride. No disrespect to women either. Because my wife can ride with the best of them. She has a 250R and loves it. I think you would like the raptor better for trail riding and ease. The banshee has No kick start, reverse, etc. Please keep in mind that I personally own 3 banshees too. My wife hands down would rather ride something else. And I sure as hell don't mind it either. :D
