fwiw, rocketboy's ported quite a few cylinders, from LT250R's to CR500's.  I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss his abilities because you haven't heard of his work.

I've heard that Rocketboy does this. Rocketboy you got some sort of portfolio on yourself? Do you work for somebody? What porting do you offer? If I went to the library of congress would I find any books of yours on the shelf next to the ones that Eric Gorr has written and published specifically on porting 2-strokes?

I don't doubt his abilities, it just cracks me up how every time there is a post about porting we all jump in here looking like we know everything about porting a bike and what each individual should do with his/her bike. Everyone's a professional. :shrugani:

im not hating o n the guy just  my opinion that  if your gonna build and invest into a a 4mill  stroker engine theres better options  and more power to be had ,my.02

Sure there is more power to be had, but not everyone wants a full out dragger. I think a 4mm Gorr set up would run fuckin awesome. Be an awesome trail/dune/drag machine. My stock crank Gorr set up would run with the best of em'. Seems like everyone that has ever had Gorr's woods port is more than happy with it.

<------- One more happy customer

EDIT: Just to end all of the bitching, I'd be more than willing to try out a 4mm with my set up if someone wants to send me one. :D

No one ever said I was a professional... :P

FWIW, I just sent a good friend to call Gorr and he tried for 3 days and never could get ahold of anyone at their number. I have him calling FASTOYS instead. He's looking for a mild 4 mil trail/dune setup like exactly what you all are talking about. He's even going to try to use the single carb, which I'm for. I know most or 99% would say... WHAT?? but I feel for what he wants, it might work out good for him.

Dan Wade from Patriot Racing is another I would look in to. He did my first motor and Jim from Passion did my current one. Both are excellent builders, but that's not to say that others aren't.

As far as woods/MX ports go there isn't a whole lot to them, so the prices are usually pretty reasonable. The amount of time a builder has to spend grinding/measuring/shaping/calculating is where the added expense come into play with the expensive port jobs.

I can give you what I built for woods, but it's an RZ motor, so that's comparing apples to oranges.

il l let you know i have a customer in Georgia who is sending me another gorr cr500 so i can FIX it to make more power for him :D guess youl l never find shit about lil ol' me cause i dont write for a dirt bike magazine and im no journalist like eric is .i wont take anything away fro m him ..gorr is definitly a guru on 2 stroke tuning and building and im in no way knocking the guy,he mostly designs his engine layouts around gncc mx and woods riding ..in other words considered "conservative".

I think you just did.

This goes back to the whole what you want to do with your bike thing. Some poeple might not want oogles of power up top or want it to scream like crazy, some people need more power down low, which is why they go with different port jobs.

Exactly!! You have to decide what kind of riding style you are going to do and then go with that port setup. If you are going to have it ported make sure you check around and talk to alot of people. There are some great people out there that really know what they are doing when it comes to porting. I have never had Eric Gorr port any of my stuff but he sure is a big name when it comes to porting, so he must be doing something right.
