fun_on_the_sand
I am looking to buy a High Performance CDI box. My local dealer tried to get me one from YAMAHA, but they dont deliver those any more. Any ideas where I can get one that is as good as the one from Yamaha. fastbanshee8
Dyna, MSD, and Vortex are all aftermarket CDI box makers. I run the MSD, and several people in here, run the Dyna. You'll have to make the choice, depending on your riding style, and personal preferrence.
fun_on_the_sand
Thank you. All those you named are programable, but I am looking for something more "plug-and-play" kinda thing, just like the one from YAMAHA that allows to increase the RPM limit by 1000
fastbanshee8
You can leave the aftermarket CDI boxes set on the "factory" settings, and just plug it in, and ride. The MSD is adjustable with switches on the back, so it's easy to change, if you ever want to. The Dyna has 4 pre-set curves, that you can pick from, so it's not like it's difficult or anything. Other than the ones I listed, I don't know of anything else out there.

You don't have to program it but you will always have the option in the future. It comes with a switch that allows you to change between 4 curves as you like. I got mine from Trinity a couple years ago.

shanYE west
I use the Vortex on my YFZ 450 and love it. it comes with a handlebar mounted switch to go from a enhanced stock curve with +1000 rev limit, to one of the preprogramed curves. I really like the plugs for the tether.. just ran the tether wires right to the CDI

itsjustagreat1
The Dyna is a good investment. The different curves are noticable. You can tell that the powerband is in different spots and also can rev out higher. Plus the stock curve on the dyna is better then the stock on a yamaha cdi. And like they said, you could then program the cdi later if needed.

itsjustagreat1
You can buy a programming kit and change the programming for fine tunning to your machine. It's best if you have a dyno readily available to test for gains, but its not needed.
scotts96fast
That makes sence,i saw the dyna fs for $100 and $300 something. The $300 one must be with the kit to program the unit. Can anyone explain the different curves on the cheaper one? I want to know how many out of the 4 would work for trail riding.
