AZ Olie
I've been thinking, What if Suzuki, Yamaha, maybe Honda started building a true 850cc High Performance Quad/ATV to replace the LT 500 Quad Racer or the Shee... I think that the need for 2 Stroke's would Die real FAST... Yamaha's close with the 700 Rapture, but it's only a 686cc motor... Yamaha only need's 160 to 164 cc's to make it official 850cc 4 er... Let's kick around and get some input on this... Olie
Mullet Man
evolution, be glad they arent going backwards too steam or coal power lol. like new musclecars, it makes for killer factory competition and then fuels the aftermarket. in the end, the consumer wins i like my shee a shit ton but 2 strokes are out like whale oil lamps
iceman
i dunno about that. an 850cc engine weighs a helluva lot. i think there would be some possible lawsuit issues with an engine that size and the retards that buy quads today. it sounds like a cool idea but id rather see R&D go into a clean burning 2 stroke. not to hijack your thread but has anyone heard any news about eyvind boyesen and how his engine is coming along? helldriver
well they already got those big motors in 4x4 quads, 850cc is the biggest i think, but they are heavy Edited February 5, 2006 by helldriver
chris642
whats an 850cc gonna rev to, 5000?
broke
You guys should look into what they are doing to sleds lately. Yamaha has their 1000cc 4 strokes working pretty well in the RX-1s and Apexs. They are just slightly heavier, but the technology will advance to the point that 2 strokes will be dinosaurs if nobody invests in keeping them clean and efficient. RIPPEN
One thing thats nice about a two stroke over a four is the simplicity. No f-in cams or valves to deal with. They will have to pry my Banshee outta my cold dead hands before I would go to the dark side and buy a "Rapture" RIPPEN

Clean, efficient, and you don't have to even mix oil. It's just they won't make them. Jet ski's are getting over 170 hp out of 2 strokes. Were as 4 strokes are getting a little more, but with more cc's and weight.

Its just that the money is already spent on the 4 strokes for one. And another reason we won't see any new 2 strokes is the negative connotation thats already there. People see them as dirty smoky engines. Places have outlawed 2 stroke boats altogether, even though the new direct injection boat motors are just as clean burning as the four strokes. Most of the DI outboards have 3 star CARB ratings. The same as the 4 stroke outboards.
STLBILL
There is an info'mercial from Evinrude running late at night lately. I am not sold on it mostly because it is a paid advertisement by Evinrude made to look like an independent test. I do not doublt it produces more power. Two strokes have more power strokes. I do doubt it runs cleaner. They only measure CO levels. Not particulate matter. I really doubt the fuel economy is better than a Honda. They don't compare the E-TEC to the Honda V-TEC engine they stole their name from!

rocketboy
it doesnt matter that the new breed of sleds with the 1000cc sport motor are faster than before because the twin mach z still kicks its ass i n a race ,an 850 cc 4 poke engine can be made to run but its gonna have to have to be a 4 cylinder engine,be way more complicated and expensive and need more repairs ,if its a 850 single or twin , it wil llack the ability to rev(harley davidson) and its gonna to be really heavy too ,thats why the utility models use them they dont need a screaming hp machine they need smooth torque and weight isnt much of an issue for them ,a ported she is stil lgonna be kicking ass on any new 4 choke made and probably stil lwill 10 -15 years from now

I have a buddie that runs one of them new Honda CRF250's and i bet u mine runs just as clean and just as efficient as his, and i can take him no probley in a drag and open road runs n/p and mines just as reliable as his and is MUCH more cheeper and easier to fix and tune. but can u really imigine if they put that technolgy into a 2-stroke ??? Bombardier is keeping it alive & they are putting a lot of time & reserch into 2-stroke improvment ! but thats in sleds. like here in Canada i don't think 2-stroke engines will ever be Outlawed because we only have 32 million ppl in ALL of Canada where as California has that if not more in one little state. I don't think i'll ever see the day when they outlaw 2-stroke anywhere in Canada. i wouldn't be surprized if yamaha actually did come out with another 2-stroke sometime in the near future. they know the run the Banshee had, 19 years of aswome sales (i bet they did better then they expected it to and went longer to) so i duno i like to keep optimistic but i wouldn't get my hopes all up. still i'll always own my banshee & never let er go
BasicBajaX
They already got the aftermarket bigbore kits for the rotax. How about 855cc with a redline of 9000rpm and the winner of 4SW. Cum Get U Sum.
