SvrdRam Posted February 2, 2006 Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 i jus finished weldin up my plus 4 swing arm but im not sure on one thing........the placement of the shock linkage tab......i thought of moving it 4 inches up from the carrier but not sure with the new angle of the arm.........wouldnt the swing arm be on more of an angle and have the back end of the quad sittin alil higher?????..........what i really need is some measurements from someone with a +4 swing arm...........ill even throw in a few beers for the help.....thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
blueshee03 Posted February 2, 2006 Report Share Posted February 2, 2006 i have a +4 and the shock mounting point is the same as stock location.i think the mounting point on a stock swingarm is the measurement you should use.i would try to keep in mind that goin longer changes the load on the spring .a +4 over swingarm works pretty well with stock shock and linkage but over +4 you may need to put a little stronger spring on the shock .the longer the swingarm the less the efficiency and load capacity is on the stock shock setup.moving mounting point towards the axle carrier would actually cause the rear of the quad to sit a little lower and it will also bottom out quicker .moving mounting point towards the is not a good idea in my oppinion. Wallrat Posted February 3, 2006 Report Share Posted February 3, 2006 Yeah ur supposed to do any length modifying at the axle end of the arm. If ur just modifying a stock swinger u can pick up a used stocker on ebay for pretty cheap. Or just post in the wanted section. Personally I don't like chopping and welding in a high stress area like a swingarm. The better way to go would be to build one from scratch. Wallrat Posted February 4, 2006 Report Share Posted February 4, 2006 Best way to do it is take a stock swingarm and use it to make a jig. Make hard mounts for the swingarm bolt, linkage, etc. then make a moveable mount for the axle housing/skidplate mounts. Cut a couple slots so you can slide the axle mount to whatever length you want. Mark the different measurements on the jig so you can quickly change the length without having to break out the measuring tape each time. You want to increase length in chain link size incriments, I forget what that measurement is (maybe Stan or somebody could chime in for that). I run a small Chopper shop out of my garage and build frames and swingarms for choppers and other custom parts and wanted a swingarm for myself so I built a jig to build one for my YFZ . I will be building them for anyone how wants one.
