PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I was thinking of trying a set of goggles with the film canisters that you just crank when dirty. One of my buds said they don't work as well as tear offs so I figured I'd ask the HQ. His complaint is that you get mud on the feed side of the film and when you crank the handle it just smears the rest of the film as it pulls across. What are some of your thoughts and are there any other alternatives out there? Quote
Gargamel Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 much agree with your friend tear offs are better IMO Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted January 31, 2006 Author Report Posted January 31, 2006 much agree with your friend 466916 The mud thing makes complete sense to me. Have you tried them? Quote
Gargamel Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I have never rode with the film style but had a friend that did and he hated it and said it smeared and did not clear well. I race with tear off's and they work extremely well. Don't ever use them on the trail only cause I'm cheep and always in the lead Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Roll offs can be a problem with smearing in sloppy mud or if its reall wet. But with tear offs of only have like 8 sheets and you are done, and it is possible to get water in behind one and have to deal with it untill you yank em all. Neither are pefect, but I prefer the roll offs because you get alot of pulls with them. Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted February 1, 2006 Author Report Posted February 1, 2006 I was looking through my Dennis Kirk mag last night and I see that Scott has holeshot system in which you use the tear offs over top of your roll offs which I thought was kind of interesting. Their thinking is that in a race you have the most problems with the start so you use the tear off at the begining and then use the roll offs. I won't be racing so it won't be that big of a deal. If I did have problems I can always stop and clean them. Quote
crazywheelerman365 Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I'd have to give my vote to the roll offs! I like something that lasts.. although I'm not to sure on prices ? I've never priced the tear offs? I know the rolls are kinda pricey.. Quote
Gargamel Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 I know the rolls are kinda pricey.. 467654 a 10 pack of tear offs= $6 a 12 pack film=$15 + the system for $40 that mounts to your goggles Quote
dnhyoung Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 I prefer the roll-offs. Plus you don't leave those little pieces of plastic along the trail for the earth muffins to complain about!!! just my .02 Quote

MILO Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 anywhere theres mud theres water.. bring a rag and clean your goggles on the trail!!! or be manly and go goggleless 468376 too bad the water is usually, uhh... MUDDY!! you might laugh, but when i've gone on really muddy poker runs, i've taken baby wipes, yeah i'm a daddy of 2. they're clean and wet and work great to clean off your goggles. that is of course in a stop and go situation where you have time to piss with them.
