Guest nightmare
I am looking at a 2001 929rr. It has just been painted. This thing has alot of after market parts. The thing is it has a salvage title. The guy said the reason for that was it was a Erion race bike. He said when they are a team owned bike they are titled offroad only. It has been put back on the street and already inspected, but I don't know how much a salvage title hurts resale on a bike. If you can give me any ideas on what the bike is worth that will help. RNBRAD
How many miles on it? I don't understand the salvage because it's a track bike. Generally people will take a wrecked bike with a salvaged title and make it a track bike. I have a 2000 model and was recently offered 5800 for it, it's mint though. So really depends how good a condition it is and really how much your willing to pay for it. Just guessing I'd say around 4500 to 5000. Guest nightmare
It's in great shape. Idon't know the mileage but I can check that out. I can get it for pretty cheap. I just didn't know how the salvage title would effect the resale. I just want to try to make a little on it not keep it. Thanks for the input rnbrad. Is there anything specific I should look for when I lokk at it again.
RNBRAD
A salvaged title will affect the price but by how much I don't know. A slavage title will affect some people's paying price and others it won't affect that much. It realy boils down to how much someone is willing to give and what they want to do with the vehicle. Just look over it real close, check the front fork seals for leaks, any frame damage, controls in working order etc.. The speedo may not reflect it's true mileage because it may have been replaced with a new or used unit. A salvage title tells you that it has been damaged to a certain % of the vehicle's pre-wreck value. I think this differes from state to state. If it is rebuilt you can apply for a new title to where it can be driven on the road. Certain inspections and fee's apply here. Though the new title will always reflect that it was once a salvage vehicle. I'd say check your state laws on the issue and go from there. Gargamel
If you were to buy it for yourself that would be OK, but I know if I look at any vehicle and it has salvage title I pass no matter how nice it looks. Just cause he said it was a race bike doesn't mean it was. It could have damage like a tweaked frame from a full out crash. Even if the ad says custom paint, that almost always means it's been down and they're trying to hide it. I say it would be a huge gamble to buy for resale reasons. Cotton eyed Joe
I have a buddy that bought a salvage titled car with out knowing what it was. Ended up that the car is essentially worthless in this state. He bought it to resell it too, so he's still driving it 3 years later, and the insurance on it is almost nothing. I don't think he can even get full coverage on the car at all.
j28d
How much is it? Are you willing to trust your life to a possibly tweaked bike at 150+? Salvage titles hurt the resale value on a rocket somewhat, but not nearly as bad as a car. Do you have a bike shop around that can laser align it to see if the frame is tweaked or if the forks are bent or the rims are bent? Did you see this R1 for 4500 in Cleveland? It's a salvage title. http://cleveland.craigslist.org/mcy/127177664.html I'd probably buy it if it's cheap, first time I felt a wobble at 100+ it'd either be fixed if possible or sold. Good luck with it, if you get bored with it stick the motor in a banshee frame. Also, you could buy a Erion edition cbr from the dealer with a title so it shouldn't be salvage unless it was wrecked. ecooke21
If it has a salvage title I am almost positive it has been in a wreck!.. Also 929's are a dima dozen.. I would offer him $3500 for it TOPS..salvage title bikes are a bad idea IMHO... It sounds like you have never owned a bike befor..I would HIGHLY recomend not getting a liter bike as a first bike..I would try and score a 600, maybe an older fzr600?..I am positive, it has enough power for a beginner.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-HONDA-...1QQcmdZViewItem item #4601395152 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-CBR929...1QQcmdZViewItem item #4604058515 I would recomend something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-YAMAHA...1QQcmdZViewItem item #4604791273 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-yzf-60...1QQcmdZViewItem Item #4605953998 I have seen many riders who buy too much bike hurt themselves!.. Good luck with whatever way you go..sport bike riding is probably the most fun I have ever had..Due to the death of a family member(on a bike), and the birth of my new son, I have decided to stop riding street..Thats why I picked up a banshee, to cure my need for speed!!! If you ever have any questions about sportbikes, give me a PM.. They have been my life for atleast the past 5 years..I have decent knowlege of the sport.. r6rider04
a 929 is alot of bike for a beginer, but i've always felt that you can start out on what ever you want as long as you respect it. Me personally, i rode R6's for 3-4 years and that was an awesome bike. The only time i didn't feel it had enough power was when we would all go out on "hell rides" and all the guys with the liter bikes would be gone, but over all i feel 600's are great bikes. I'm not saying this is the case here, but more often than not people go out and get "big bikes" just to say they have one. I traded my R6 in for a 2005 yamaha road star warrior , best thing i ever did. Which ever bike you go with, ride safe. There are alot of idiots out there. Young people in General, DONT respect bikes
txblueshee
I wouldn't touch a salvage title with a 10ft pole.... Especially if you're going for resale... unless you don't tell the buyer it has a salvage title.... Which is illegal.... Mike
spunmonkey
Custom Paint doesnt always mean wrecked. A guy i know bought a busa and had it repainted because he didnt like the color scheme. I have repainted my TL1000R a few times not because i have wrecked it but because i paint as a hobby and can change it if i want to. On the salvage title issue, some or most insurance companies will total a bike giving it a salvage title because of a something as little as a scratch. If you dont know what to look for i wouldnt recommend getting one just incase someone not to smart attempted to rebuild the bike if that was the situation. If i had inspected a bike with a salvage title and it looked good to me i wouldnt hesitate to pick it up cheap. And as far as someone saying it wobbled at 100mph the front tyre could be out of balance or the tyre could be cupped and so on. If you are contimplating it dont buy it wait for another bike. And yes a salvage title will hurt its resale. And i think the guy is giving you a load of BS on the racing means salvage thing. If its a true team bike it wont have vin numbers. Guest nightmare
thanks for the input guys. hard to belive i'm 29 and still never had a street bike yet. Since I been riding quads and dirt bikes for a long time.any way thanks for the help guys since I really don't know shit about these bikes. I checked the Erion race bike thing out. I think it is just an erion edittion 929 like you guys said you can buy that at dealership. I think i'm going to try to low ball him with a 3000 dollar offer. I looked at it again and it's in great shape. I also took it to 120 and it didn't wobble.
ecooke21
I also took it to 120 and it didn't wobble. 463275[/snapback] Although that is a good sign, It doesnt mean much..There could be 100's of other problems..I cant stress enough, IF YOU BUY THIS BIKE, RESPECT IT!!!!! or any bike for that matter.. like i said in my previous post, give me a pm if you have any sportbike questions.. Good luck
1000dollabill
a salvage title bike is nearly uninsurable. just think if you crash it. most accidents on a street bike result in totalling it. you could get a nice clean title f4i for 2500-3500 and they are bullet proof. my insurance doubled from a sv650 to a gsxr1000 2 years ago.
