SKINBANSHEE05 Posted January 14, 2006 Report Share Posted January 14, 2006 heres the problem. i just installed v3 reeds. put it back together and now it won't start on its own. i have to spray carb cleaner down the cylinders. once it is warmed up it will start by kick. but the whole time idling it back fires and spits and sputters out of the left cylinder and revs quickly. i was thinkin gasket leak out of the around the reeds. but if so how do i fix!!?? fastbanshee8 Posted January 14, 2006 Report Share Posted January 14, 2006 Replace the gaskets. You need to have a gasket on the back side and front side of the reed cages. I have run the V-Force's for years, and I've never had this problem, but I used a gasket between the reed cage and the cylinder, and the reed cage and the intake, on each side. PLEASE HELP 459502[/snapback] Like fastbanshee said, you have to make sure you are running a gasket on both the cylinder and carb side of the reeds. Also, you may want to consider a super small skim, and I mean skim, coating of RTV on the modified intake boot side. I have seen some modded boots that had small scuffs from the hacksaw blade that caused small air leaks. im pretty sure u have to rejet with those mods...maybe the pros can step in! 459509[/snapback] Actually it seems that you usually do not have to rejet. Moto Tassinari says that rejetting may be necessary. Now, every bike is different and I would definitely recommend a plug check, but I didn't find it necessary on mine. Yeah sometimes people don't need to rejet for reeds, but I'd rather find out by making her too rich and backing it down to where I was. Melting a piston just aint fun in my book.
