anyone know how i should install my subs

Recommended Posts

well guys i have an 01 jetta, it has a monsoon sound system right now(factory) i bought 2 jl 12 inch subs with amp, and well i want 2 put them in my car but the only thing i dont know about is installing the wires for the head unit. Its stock and i dont wanna try to use an aftermarket one becacause it has 8 speakers and not 4 becasue of the premium sound system, is there ne other way to hook up the wires 2 the head unit or into the factory amp somehow...hope this makes sense....

I would REALLY recommend an aftermarket H/U, but if you must, what you'll need is a line output converter, it'll splice into your speaker wires, then you can hook up your RCA cable's for the amp and sub.

they have a nice one at walmart for 17 bucks and you can mount it nice and neat

I would go with a aftermarket H/U and a Multi-channel audio processor so you can run all 8 speakers. Im not sure about all line converters you splice in, but one that I seen had a 250 watt limit or around there ( I could be mistaken).

Im running 2 12' kicker solobaric L7's running off a orion HCCA 225. I also have all my mids running off another HCCa 225. All off a pioneer H/U. Sounds awsome. I have a alpine audio processor but am not using it right now. Im planning on installing it again monday :)

You cant go wrong with a good setup. start splicing wires to convert signals then IMO it takes the quality out of it and makes weak links. If your running JL and whatnot, why shove walmart shit to run with it :shrugani:

Nice, I've got 2 W3's on a 1000 watt Kendwood and Alpine deck

I must say, though, that a nice deck will make all the difference

350TwinDeathBed where do you buy smiple stuff? How much horsepower do you get? Not Hijacking just wanted to point that out carry on. :P

I'd get a head unit too unless the factory one comes with RCA's, it'll never sound as good with the factory one. For the short term you'll have to splice them in as said above but I've never done that so I'm not sure how it would sound. Another alternative is a powered equillizer, my buddy had one that wired in circuit with his stereo system and then it had the RCA outputs to run his subs and an additional set of front and rears. His truck sounded pretty good since it upped the power to all the factory speakers and was easy to run the amps. Just a couple of thoughts, don't know if you can by them like that anymore, his truck was long totaled.

All depends on the make of the amp. My orion amps are only rated at 50watts x 2 @ 4 ohms. the HCCA amps are capable of going down to a 1/2 ohm. at a 1/2 ohm its pushing around 1100 watts. very very clean watts. I can push 4 12's from each amp easy and would sound as good as a 2000+watt amp. They call them cheater amps for a reason :headbang: you get what you pay for. JL makes good subs, I would push them with a old school orion or mmats amp to give them a good deep thump of pure watts. Most of the newer amps and off brand rate their amps at peak power, so if they say 2000 watts or what ever, its probably only kicking almost half that in actual RMS watts. I would take a Orion HCCA 225 rated at 50watts x 2 over almost any 2000+ amps on the market today. Set them JL's up with the right box and the right amp and your friends will have no problem hearing you come a few blocks away :notworthy:
