Carb Synchronizing

I bought a bike that was set up to run near sea level and took it to a place that's closer to 6,500'. How big a deal is carb sync amd can I get by, at least temporarily by reaching in with a set of calipers and setting both slides to identical heights at a given throttle position, or like many other things have I completely missed the boat on this? Happy Ho Ho to each of you...you folks are the best!

I just check it visually every time I clean the filter. Look real close, and just touch on the throttle until you see one slide start to move, then look at the other slide, let off, and see if it falls. If you listen to them close and move slow, you can hear if they aren't closing at the same time.

The windows on the stock carbs on mine are all clouded up and you can't see through them.

if yo u simply remove the airbox lid and take the air filter off ,lean down and yo u can visually watch the dual slides move up and down at any throttle setting and confirm any irregularity in them and adjust accordingly til l they are in perfect harmony with one another ,no need for a tool IMO

Some guys can get them really close but 9 out of 10 cant. With this you pull the filters off (or airbox) and hold the sync tool on the bell of the carb at idle and set your base idle. Then you hold the throttle up about 3,000 or so (steady) and check em there! When your done they are set to the Nats AZZ!! You would be surprised how much better the response can be! Like i say , all your buddies will be paying you to do thiers too!$

Stroker was correct!$$

I think actually Cork was lookin for info on jetting but it first looked like syncing the carbs! Sorry Cork (didnt mean to hijack your thread), you will prolly want to lean the jets down a couple of sizes for that alltitude. HO HO To you to Cork!!

I will get a pic of it tomorrow!

I can't see what is so hard about synching...take a flashlight and look into the intake, bottom each slide out so that they barely touch...move the adjustments up and down until they don't go down anymore (barely touching) then turn the adjustment knob 1 full turn back up. Do this to both sides and you'll be mint......if the idle is slightly off, then turn the knobs EQUALLY to raise or lower the idle...
