Rebuild Time

Recommended Posts

Hey there, just a quick question.

Im rebuilding my banshee this week and this is what i have so far, Toomey tr6's, boyseen reeds, jetted at 280. I'm going to get a top end port and polish/ cool head and wieco pro-lites put in the bansh. Just wondering what size domes you guys would recommend.. trying to keep compression around stock as thats what the pipes im running recommend. also any idea about what jetting changes i would have to make would be appreciated.. And would it be wise to rebuild the crank or should it be alright left stock... my bikes a 2003 so perhaps its due too.. Thanks for any info

If you are going to split the case anyway either buy a new crank or have yours rebuilt trued, indexed, then welded.

I built the engine in my friends 2003 banshee and we tuned it through trial and error.

His bike has the following mods:

Play port (by me)

K&N filter

K&N airbox lid

Toomey T6's

V-Force 2's

Cool head w' 20 cc domes

still stock carb'd (he won't put on the 30's i bought him)

We ride almost always at glamis and his bike likes 280 mains and 27.5 pilots(least i think they are 27.5  )

With porting I would ditch the T-6's and get a set of T-5's if your set on Toomeys or just get CPI's and be done with it. Your'e gonna need bigger carbs, 33's come to mind and raise the compression on your machine. Get some 19 or 20 domes. Lighten the fly wheel and get a timing plate to increase your timing. Oh, and some new rear tires, all the new power your stockers will spin. Without a doubt get your crank welded.

I have t-6 pipes and eric gorr port, I was happy with the pipes with stock porting and 10 times happier now. talked to eric about my pipes, he said I wouldn't have a problem with his port and I didn't. if you have $500 to blow maybe get some t-5s, but I would at least try the t-6s first and see what you think yourself. mine runs great. goodluck

First off why does he need bigger carbs? Yeah they'd help a ton with the top end but he should be able to get by with stock. 19cc domes could be pushing it if he's running 91 octane at sea level. If he increases the timing 20cc domes would be pushing it, 19 would be detonation city.

Yeah i was hoping to stay away from buying bigger carbs.. right now anyways.. I was on the Trinity site and they have a carb set up sheet that tells you the jets and setting that work best with certain mods.. With their port and polish they can still run stock carbs with 330 main jet size i believe it was... Also how important is timing advance? wont i either lose top end and gain bottom or viseversa by messing around with the timing?

I want to try the t-6's.. if they dont end up working good with the port job.. expect to see them up for sale or trade.

Thanks

Brad

My 02 is ported, just a play/mx port and its been pretty hard to dial in the stock carbs.Very fussy to temperature changes and the like. I'm stepping up to some 33's. With porting, of course depending on the type of port and riding preferences, he may just need his bored, or 28's, 30's or 33's and up. As far as domes I run 20's on my 99, which is stock except for pipes and the usual bolt on stuff and we run pump gas. My 02 has a stock head and I can feel the difference in the 99 and the 02. I can tell the compression needs to be raised on the 02. My 94 has 17 domes, race gas and 33's and is a completely different animal than the other two. As far as T-5's are concerned, and this is coming straight from Toomey, the T-5's WILL perform better than the T-6's with port work done.
