BLACKBANSHEE04
I would like to know what is the best gearing for high speeds like 90+, but my shee is stock but i'm gonna do some work to it and maybe that will give some hints 1.toomey 5 pipes 2.v force reeds 3.4mm stroker crank with standard size rod 5.+4 timing key 6.racing head with 20cc domes on pump gas 7.cdi rev box that will allow u to rev a extra 1000 rpms 8.high flow water impeller 9.vitos superstock pistons .
dajogejr
Porting will help, too. Don't waste your money on a +4 degree key. Get a timing plate from RickyStator.com. For 35 bucks plus shipping, you don't ever have to worry about shearing a key...at least anymore than you would with a stock key... Here's a gearing calculator to help: http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/banshee.htm Hitting 90 has more to do to it than just mods, it's tire size and gearing too! +4 timing with 20cc heads may require a little mix of race gas too, depending on your elevation. I'd PM DLNoss and see what he says, or...go to his site. Once you get in the 155LBs and up range...you're on the edge of needing more octane... Blue Duece
you will have to have at least a 17 up front and the balls in the motor to pull it, with a stock bore and a 17 your bike will peter out in fourth..........
Wallrat
Just wondering why you wanna run a shortrod stroker? You're replacing the pistons and crank anyway, so why not go with some extra reliability?
BLACKBANSHEE04
Its just the money i have but will 15 or 16 on top will help speed with a little engine work
dajogejr
You'll need some work to pull that...but, you should have it. If Wiseco pistons are cheaper than Vitos'...I'd go with them. Also...I'd save the money on the CDI and put long rods in as said...get the ignition later. An ignition box also curves your timing, so...be careful with the degree key or plate, whichever you decide to go with... A good port job with the mods you listed will put you there.... BLACKBANSHEE04
A 15/41 gearing shouldn't be no problem with what i have listed because really i'm just trying to get faster than my cousin stock raptor
BLACKBANSHEE04
Also what is the difference between a short and long rod, and what is wrong with vitos pistons
dajogejr
If all you're trying to do is be faster than your cousin's stock raptor, stop at the pipes, jetting and head. That's all you'll need. All I have done to my quad is basically in my signature, and I spank any of the new STOCK 4 strokes.... However, once you get into pipes, cams, ignitions, higher compressions, etc., on a new YFZ or R, it's a whole new ball game. Those 4 strokers are fast!! A stroker crank moves the crank journal off center, 4mm, and it will give you more power. However, since it is stroking longer, it puts the rod at an odd angle at either end of it's stroke....causing a little more stress. If you put a longer rod in it...it lessens that angle, lessens the stress, and makes it more reliable.... That's it in a nutshell.... fast500#12
i hit 86 mph (according to gps) with fmf fatties 20 cc domes and +4 timing stock tires and a 15 /41 gearing before my port work and bore. you don't need lots of hp just a big area. BLACKBANSHEE04
Could i run pump gas with 20cc domes i don't know the elevation in south carolina but on the other hand which crank will give me more power a short or long rod and who sells the cheapest stroker cranks
kotin6
Lets first start realistically. You will need a min of 80-90HP to obtain these speeds. I know, gearing will not do it alone. I personally run 16-38 gearing and can obtain speeds in excess of 100, radar verified and GPS verified at Pikes Peak last year. Honestly what are you doing and why do you think you need to go that fast? A well built 4MM ported motor will get you close but make sure you do the RZ350 6th gear mod or you won't be able to get past 80MPH. The gearing spread between 5th and 6th stock is too large and most engines cannot pull that top gear. Then aerodynamics come in to play at anything over 70, The wind resistance becomes too high and the engine will not pull that tall of a gear. For example my bike with 16-38 gearing will go 120+ on the dyno but in real life and on a flat road I can only get up to around 105-110 and let me tell you that is too fast on a quad. I ride a Hayabusa and do 130-140 all day long and never bat an eye but anything over 75-80 on a quad is scary. I cannot descirbe why but it is a very uncomfortable feeling. So if you plan to do it then make sure you build a good engine with around 80-90HP gear it about 16-38 and hold on. The stock cases will take up to an 18 front sprocket but generally speaking the engine will not be able to pull that high of a gear so stick to a 16 front and a 38-40 rear and you should get close, just remember be careful things happen very fast at those speeds. 447604[/snapback] im not calling you out or anything but you may alittle wrong. I ride my shee to work on a regular bassis, and I have clocked in mid 80's BEFORE my port work, I know I wasnt anywhere near 70 or 80 horses. Just throwing that out there.
