Banshee acting up

Recommended Posts

well i asked you guys about 3 weeks ago about my shee...

It just DIED and wouldnt start... I pulled the plugs and they seemed fine... So i took it to a friend...

He said it was the piston and that it blew... It had fuel and spark so i was pissed... However when i left i kicked it and it still had compression.... Hmmmm...... So then i had another friend look at it... He suggested it was the Reed Vaulves... Ok? :shootself:

So today it was still on the trailer from when i took it to my buddies... So forecasted snow made me take it out of the cold into a shed... When i was taking it off the trailer i choked it and kicked it for shits a giggles... Well then the motor poped and i was like... huh, sounds like life... Kicked it again and it CAME TO LIFE... :headbang:

THE JOY ON MY FACE WAS PRICELESS... I SAT DOWN AND THREW IT IN FIRST AND THERE I WENT.... However it wont take off and it is popping out of the right side LOUDLY.... banghead

Any suggestions? Plug wires? Coil? Piston? Reeds? Where do i start?

Thanks!

run a compression test on the cylinders. not the thumb over the plug hole. you should have at least 115 psi to run. check the vacumn tube between the carbs.they fall off a lot. and wont run good. it is 3 inches long and connects between the carbs. if they are stock carbs. also make sure you tors unit is unplugged from the tops of the carbs and under the fuel tank there is a little black box next to the coil. that is tors unit unplug that also.

Sound like a problem with the Parking Brake/ TORS to me...

Try engauging and disengauging the Parking brake...Better yet Buy a new clutch lever like the yamaha factory lever for like #30 and a parking brake block off, and be done with it.

The engine won't correctly run if it thinks the parking brake is engauged. Usualy the left side chokes out first so it might start with some trouble but it will sputter, pop and die if you try to take off...could do it to the right side though too...

If you screw with the parking brake enough it might start. (on handlebars or on the brake itself (mounted to rear brake hub).

Otherwise it's likely a problem with the carbs (plugged Jet), is it missfiring or backfiring?

Make sure the crossover tube & make sure the choke tube (connects the 2 carbs together) are installed and have good seals.
