ojcool
I have been screwing around quite a bit with this thing cause when I bought it, (brand new 05 bike) It really ran pretty much like crap... Tons of midrange break up. After talking with the service guy at the dealer he advised me to put the needle clips on the 2nd groove and it cleared it up alot.. Being a tinkerer I have kept fooling with it and I have it running really good now.. My current settings are this: 200 main 2nd clip on needles pilot about 1 1/4 turns out. This is with the bike in dead stock trim with the air box top off. I live in Stafford Va and ride at Buds Creek Md track. I have looked on the internet to find the elevation but I would assume it is under 500 feet above sea level since it's so close to the potomac river. My question is, am I running lean? The plugs look okay but from reading you guys posts people are reccomending alot larger main jets even with just the box top off. I tried making the bike richer but it just runs so horrible in the midrange. I hate to be just tuning off feel but isn't feel a pretty good indicator? I don't run too much in WOT so midrange drivability is my major concern ( I ride alot of trails) I just ordered a set of FmF silencer (not the whole exhaust) do I really need to make any changes with just that mod? Should I put in a 240 main and try to lean on the bike in the midrange to get my driviability? Thanks for any help guys. stu
biggun6ss
Everyones bike is going to run differently. The best way to tell if it is jetted right is look at your plugs. When I ask about my jetting i get about ten different opinions. So just keep tinkering with it until it feels right. Dont know about the silencers though. I would just save up some money and buy the complete set. Changing the pipes will make a lot of difference in how it runs.
midnite
If your after great mid range power do your self a favor and send those fmf silencers back and buy one of the 2 into 1 pipes, and advance the timing 4 degrees. You'll have good bottom and great mid range power with those mods.

Also, you should be running a Proflow adapter, preferrably with a K&N or similar filter with the airbox removed. The stock filter retainer uses the lid to keep the filter sealed to the front of the airbox. Plus, the stock filter setup does a pretty poor job of sealing even with the lid installed. If you ever ride in the sand with the stock setup, I can almost guarantee that you will find sand in the intake track with the stock box/filter. With all of that said... your main jet is really only measured at WOT, then after you have tuned the WOT, you would make needle adjustments to tune the midrange on the bike. With the lid removed you may be able to go to a 210 or 220, but the major limitation at this point is the stock pipes. Even with the lid removed, you may be able to take in more air, but you cannot get it out. So set your main by doing a WOT throttle plug check, then make needle adjustments so that the midrange is clean.
landw0lf
I run a very similar setup; mild port job (i went down on mains after having it ported from 240 to 230) Im at sealevel K&N filter with modded adapter no airbox lid I run 230mains 25 pilots one up from the middle (leaner) o the needle I do run 28mm mikunis instead of 26mms from an RZ250 though, shouldnt change much. Stock exhaust is very restrictive too. Bike has good midrange power and good topend. 240s for me was a little large, would flood after i backed off throttle and gas it again. Hope this helps!
