locogato11283 Posted October 22, 2005 Report Share Posted October 22, 2005 for any kind of messin around and play riding and trails i wouldnt go any longer than +2 and would prolly stay more towards stock...if u want good handling go shorter..if u wanna wheelie go shorter...if u wanna mess around stock or shorter...id stay away from longer if i were you... I would say a -1 if you rode hills also, wouldn't want too much traction. from my understanding with the -2 you will get more traction but it is controlable, someone with a -2 swingarm can chime in. Ducman Posted October 24, 2005 Report Share Posted October 24, 2005 If I were you I'd just stay with the stock swinger. I used to be able to wheelie like mad with my stock swinger and cant hardly wheelie at all with the +4. You have to have a lot more traction to get the front end up. Its basically darn near impossible to ride a wheelie with a +4 swinger on a gravel/dirt road or get very good trackion, the rear tires just spin. But they do kick ass in the sand for drag type launches and are awsome for hill climbs. +4 still handle decent, makes it just a little harder to slidle the ass end around and makes the front want to push more. The rear suspension feels way more plush but bottoms a lot easier. The main advantage of a longer swinger is to keep the front end down. With the stock swingarm, the shee just spins and spins, and hey spins some more. I do a lot of play riding and ride sandpits, a local homemade track, and ride a lot of fast trails with some decent size hills. I guess the best comparison I would want to make is would a -1 or -2 make the Banshee as wheelie happy as a Z 400 or an 05 TLD Predator? But it's still going to spin more just because of the power band. sycoracer, I'd decide on a -1 or a -2. They're both going to make it easier to get the front end up, and it's going to handle a lot better then stock. I had a buddy buy a +2 swinger and he could never get through the trails worth a $hit. (unless you run paddles or ride on pavement most of the time) -2" if you are running aftermarket a-arms that move your front wheels forward. -1" if you plan to continue using the stock a-arms. I run a -2" swingarm with +2", +1" a-arms and love it. Traction is greatly improved. It bites and slightly lifts the front tires, but doesn't want to wheelie over. With the stock a-arms and the -2" swingarm, it was a little different, it always wanted to be on the back tires. Moving the front tires forward 1" made a huge difference in keeping the front end down. It still gets the front end up easily, but is very controllable. I like the -2" swingarm better for hill climbing than a stock or long swingarm because I can actually get traction at the bottom of the hill and get some momentum going. I'm not a big jumper, but those that are say the shorter swingarm make the quad much more managable in the air. BUT, I hate the shorter swingarm in the sand!!! I run a small Chopper shop out of my garage and build frames and swingarms for choppers and other custom parts and wanted a swingarm for myself so I built a jig to build one for my YFZ . I will be building them for anyone how wants one.
