Bill Robinson
Hello everyone! I have been manufacturing motorcycle transmissions for drag racing for 25 years now, and recently have had requests for a complete billet trans for the Banshee. Considering They are drag raced 1/8 mi. on asphalt and 100yds in the dirt / sand, I was thinking about making a 4 speed in auto or non auto, similar to the one in my avatar (which is for a hayabusa). My question to all of you is: how many of you would consider buying one?
reded
Me! I would neede more insight on this tho. Needs to be 5 speed. You may get more response from people over at www.planetsand.com as they are more drag race oriented over there.
FASTOYS
Hi Bill, welcome aboard! Cool concept! You might also consider checking out Planet Sand.com as there are more hard core draggers over there. I think most of the Banshee guys will need more than 4 gears though for 1/8 mi cause they only turn about 10,000 rpm.
FASTOYS
Oh how funny, at the same time. lol
sheefreak
Would you offer it up override or non, how about an estimate on price. I would also be interested in a 1-5.
bigboybanshee
I'm interested too...how much are you thinking for the price?
Bill Robinson
Realistcally, if I can produce 20 units or more, I think I could keep it in the $2K range. Can you live with that?
reded
I can have my tranny cut for $400. That $2000 could be used towards a frame or ? It's too steep for this guy, but there may be some hardcore dudes who would be willing to try it out. Thanks for asking tho.
blueshee03
I think most of the Banshee guys will need more than 4 gears though for 1/8 mi cause they only turn about 10,000 rpm. 427202[/snapback] i think most guys that drag shees will disagree on that fastoys.i run a 1-5 overide and many times i crossed finish line in 4th gear.my sons x3 passion motor turns well over 10000 rpm's and with a 16-38 gearing i ran it at the drags that was 500ft and crossed finish line everytime in third gear and ran a best time of 5.8 secs. and a worst of 6.2 secs. and every pass it was still pulling like crazy.i didnt need 4th and 5th gear. a lot of the guys at the sands run 2-4 overides.they only run 300ft most all the time.it does all depend on your gearing and motor setup though.just my 2 cents worth
PassionRE
Ck out planetsand.com those guys over their with their triple Cheetahs and such will drop 2k in a trans and not think twice about if they think they need it. Some custom ratio 4 speeds might work well on those large displacement type engines...Jim
Justintoxicated
Ummm, Wouldent a Billet Transmition be weaker? I mean thats alot of money for something that sounds like it would wear out much faster....Especialy with a drag motor... ???
Shee-Male
Billet weak??,I don't think so!
Bill Robinson
Just to give you an idea about how much stronger than stock it would be, I made some billet 5 speed autos for the suzuki GSXR1100 oil cooled engine (same gear centerlines as the banshee) that were breaking trannys every 4 - 5 runs down the 1/4. To date it has over 50 passes on it with a best run of 7.16 @ 195 mph. and it looked perfect last time it was apart.
locogato11283
thats alot for a tranny for small time guys..but the big time guys would easily go for that...
NYUK
planetsand has a bunch of members with 14 mm 16mm and big triples that lunch 2nd gear and such often.cryo treated gears and all.you are talking to mostly trail riders and duners who would have no need for a custom machined purpose built tranny.you need to go to www.planetsand.com they are 90% drag racers there as compared to the very few here.the tranny in the banshee is the weak link over 100hp.
