watkins
Throttle keeps sticking on the bike, I can have it in idle and can rev it all day long with no problems but as soon as i put it in gear and hit the powerband the throttle will stick.. a simple blip of the throttle will get it unstuck.. cant figure it out.. have cleaned the carbs twice, lubed the throttle cable... still scratching my head. Its been going on for a month now, It normally doesnt bother me too bad on the hard pack.. but heading out to glamis next week and I can just see a stuck throttle f*kin me up. First noticed it after I bumped up the timing +4 and lightened the flywheel.. .but I also changed some jetting around at the same time.. so im lost now. Do you have TORS on it?? If not I would check where the cable goes into the carb cap. The little metal housing sleeve would come out of the adjustment screw and keep it one of my slides open. I would also lube your slides just to make sure it isn't the slides sticking. Hope you find out what is the cause, good luck.
watkins
Thanks for the response. Tors has been removed, and the cable going into the carbs is fine (screws are not backed out)... what do you use to lube the slides? I do have a spare throttle cable around, I may slap that on there just to troubleshoot.
batoutofshell
Okay I never noticed this before, but when you remove the needle and retainer there is a hole in the slide below. When you put the retainer back over the needle should this expose the hole or cover it up? Seems like open it would suck vacuum on the throttle cable. Keep it exposed, if it was covered then the slide would want to stick open due to suction of air and vise versa...you want the air to be able to flow back and forth as you open and close the throttle...think of it as closing the door of your car..the door always closes easier w/ the window open.. Try This
watkins
Its exposed
jaysea1
I would take out the slides, and feel the throats of the carbs to make sure nothing is hanging up that slide. When the TORS was removed, the idle screw holes were drilled. The inside of the carbs should have been sanded down a little with very fine grit sand paper..on the inside of that idle screw hole(where it was drilled and tapped) While out clean the slides and carbs real good and lightly oil the slides with premix oil. Try checking your adjustment again on the carb top/throttle cable, and as mentioned grease the cable. Don't know if you already did these things just my suggestion. svtkid78
Do you have enough throttle freeplay?
ROB
Purchased a new 2005 about 6 months ago.. I had removed the TORS, Re-Jetted, T-6's, K&N..etc... Silconed the throttle cables at the point of entry to the carbs to keep out moisture...Still stuck wide open, until I feathered the throttle... It was really starting to piss me off... Until a riding buddy, had similar problems, he took his slides out.. There is a black coating on the slides (not on older models). Took a fine grit sand paper and sanded the black off until it was bare metal. Did not stick after that... I did the same. Rode this past weekend.. First time I had ridden it (through mud & water) with the slides sanded... Needless to say, they did not stick once!!!
greg_banshee
ya man i had the same problem and the slides of the carbs ... if there like a dark color like carbon color ... clean them with 1000-1500 grit sand paper untill there like a "gold" color (well mine were anyways) that fixed all my problems ! Wallrat
I wonder if maybe its a cable routing issue. Normally I'd agree with all the other people suggesting stuck slides but if its only happening in gear then maybe the bouncing around or something is stressing a kink in the cable. I dunno man...weird problem.
