rocketboy
out-of frame drag pipes generally have less back pressure too ,and the motors port layout must be designed for them beforehand or theyll make no more power , ususally fro m what i understand of this dillema you gotta have a very high exhaust port timing like a 200+ and maybe triple exhaust ports or youll see no gains by running an out of frame over a good tuned inframe alot of people get them cause they think its gonna make them faster when it i n reality just looks cooler Edited October 4, 2005 by rocketboy

Cotton eyed Joe
So inframe will do just as good performance wise? 423338[/snapback] Well, the long and the short of it is the pipes and engine configuration have to work together. The pipes are basically the equvillant of the camshaft in a 4 stroke engine. The design is critical in nearly every aspect from the header length to the angle and length of the divergent and convergent cones. Even stinger length is important. Since its easier to tune an engine than it is to redesign and fabricate a set of pipes, generally the engine is tuned to run with a specific set of dynamics for a given pipe. Being that a pipe design is calculated most "drag" pipes will look similar, same with mid range pipes. Some drag pipes are made to run at the very top of the rpm range, so the engine has to be tuned to perform that way with port openings, blow down time etc.... Justintoxicated
Out of frames are sick, Especialy when you roll your bike, or get too much air and wack your leg on them when your landing.
rzcolobanshee
I rolled 3 times a couple weeks ago Didn't do a thing to the pipes...although I do have a nice circle burn mark on my back from the stinger lol....My bike runs great with drag pipes, but the exhaust port on a stock rz is around 200 degrees, I'd prefer inframes but I can't fit any good pipes on this engine....oh well cub next year
