98bonerSTOCKshee
Back over Labor Day weekend my lights began running weak. I have the RS 200w and I am running 2 100w bulbs and have been sinse Febuary. I checked all wires and connectors for anything not right.. All was well. So I started in today, with the ohm meter checking the stator out. I get 0 ohms when checking the yellow to black wire going into the stator, it should be .25ohm or so... That tells me the coil is shot... Knowing that I won't beable to sit around camp at night, or get a replacement before HQ trip, I started pondering even more.. When I disconnect 1 bulb the other lights up really bright and vica verca... Is this actually the stator or maybe the voltage regulator. lights still work just weak... If all else fails I'll be a one eye bandit on the night rides at LIL Sahara...

98bonerSTOCKshee
Ok a few things...1 You should not be runing 100 watt bulbs off the ricky stator...The most recomended is 75 watt bulbs and thats pushing it. (I know I had 2 75's and changed to 55 IR's) (55 IR = 88 watt standard halogens) 2 Bulbs will eventualy not light up as much as before, I think they develop more resistance as used or something. But you are putting too much load on that stator! it could be the coil is shot....Even my 75's started to do the same thing... Change to 55 watt lights man, you will be much happier....Or at most 2 75's... You will never hit the max brightness with 100 wat lamps. unless your reving it to the moon and disconnect your taillight... Hell I have the High Output flywheel too.. Lighting coil resistance Yellow to Black .26-.38 (1987-2001) Yellow/red to black .26-.38 (2002) pickup coil resistance white/red to white/green 94-100 charging coil resistance green to red 13.7-20.5 your green to red will not match stock resistance...PM for details on why. It's hard to believe your getting 0 ohms, if the coil was show I would expect more ohms than less, unless there is a short, but even with a short it would likely not be 0. 419588[/snapback] Yes as I was thinking 0 doesn't sound right.. I do have some 55w and maybe even 75w, I'll give them a try this weekend... Thanks for posting the specs for the electrical test.. the yellow/red to black is shown in the clymers as being 2002 models and later I think.. edits in blue for others looking... Justintoxicated
NP, how old is your ricky stator? MIne is a few years old, I'm having mine replaced under warranty.
98bonerSTOCKshee
replaced under warranty? Really Ricky's got a warranty, I just got mine this last Febuary... Sent Ricky email.. thanks!
98bonerSTOCKshee
Got email back from RickyStator today, he had me do a simple test to check to regulator out.. Regulator Check from RS.. try unplugging the single blue wire to the regulator (it is in the back by the CDI box) start the bike without the lights on..... turn the lights on but do not rev it yet..... slowly, slowly bring the rpms up and if the lightds start to perform as before you have a bad AC regulator... I did as instrucedt, my regulator is bad not the stator.. Just figured I'd post the info. for future "search canidates"
