RV00GT
My banshee went underwater for a while in the flood waters of Katrina. I finally saw the bike Monday and it is in decent shape, as far as the body, but is there any hope for the motor?
RNBRAD
Did water actually get inside the motor? If so you will need to completely tear it down and replace crank, gears etc.. Some of it could be salvaged, the metal parts with media blast possibly.
Justintoxicated
Depends if there is water in the cylinders or not... Probably would need a complete rebuild, might as well make it a stroker if you have not already done so.
stuntmasta3o5
That sucks man.. All I can say is open 'er up and see if there is anything left as well as preparing her for a next category 4 hurricane... Rita...
pimp559
that's totally fixable. Drain and replace oil. Clean and dry filter. Drain and clean carbs. Take plugs out and fill engine with gas, then turn her upside down and roll the engine over by hand until all the gas is out (3-4 times). Make sure you get all water out of pipes. Put back together with new plugs and ride. Jet skis get water logged all the time and this is what you do to them to get them going again. I'm sure you could get her going in a few hours. RV00GT
I'm glad i'm getting some positive feedback about this situation. I also lost a house and a 510rwhp 2000 mustang gt and nothing on it is salvagable. I am considering getting totally out of the race car scene and concentrate more on the shee mainly because it is a lot cheaper.
Cotton eyed Joe
Sorry to hear about your 510rwhp drag car being trashed. I have a customer with a 600bhp drag car that he's got quite a bit in, and its sad to see someones hobby get trashed.... On the banshee, I'd say tear down the engine, scrape the shit out of it, replace the bearings and seals. Just go for a total rebuild on the engine to be safe. RV00GT
I'm staying in Baton Rouge, the shee is in Arabi. I went to my house for the first time Monday and could not get the shee because the shed it is in is on the roof of my house. As soon as I can I am going down to my house and yank my shed off the roof and retrieve the banshee. I cannot get to it now because of Rita. Proquad101
I jumped my shee in a lake one time ( not on purpose). By the time I was able to get my head out of the water I couldnt touch bottom. I looked over and saw the grab bar and pulled it the beach. I drained the crank case and filled it with gas and put the bike in nuetral and spun the rear wheels. Then I filled the cylinders with gas and pulled the plugs out and pushed the bike around to let the pistons push all that crap out of the cylinders. The whole time I was doing this I had the carbs soaking in a coffee can full of gas. I then drained the gas out of the crank case and filled it with gear saver and spun the rear wheels while it was in gear, then drained it and repeted it a couple of times until the oil came out clean. After that I kicked it over few time slow and it started up.
reded
I've seen lots of bikes go under water, just drained it and went on. Your situation is a little different tho. It has been sitting long enough in this condition that rust has probably started to form on all the bearings and the cyl. walls. I would strip the motor completely and replace all bearings, hone the cylinders to remove any rust and throw on some new rings. For $200-$300 it should be ready to go.
