Front Hub Bearings...

Hello All,

I am going to powdercoat my front and rear hubs while other things are getting powdercoated. Do I need to remove the bearnigs...or just the seals? Those damn things are hard to get out and are piss'n me off :)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

T :whoa:

Yes, you will need to pull those babies out.. they have to put all the pcd stuff in an oven and bake the stuff, im not sure if you need to take the bearings out tho, you should probably get some new ones while your at it anyways.. Actually, a good way to get them out is put them in your oven at home and bake them a little bit and they should slide out with a few hits. I used a socket, dont remember what size, to get mine out.. it should fit over the outer lip of the bearing.. the first one youll have to knock out with something skinny and long( :o ), i used a punch trying not to damage the bearing although.. not like i used the same ones... :shrugani:

i did my hole bike powdercoated and you must REMOVE EVERY EVERY EVERY single bearing and make sure the guy doesnt paint where your bearings go ( inside steering stem shaft ) etc......... i can reccomend a guy i sent my frame out to he does a pimp job , he knows where not to paint without telling him and is truly a person who takes pride in there work ......... www.trgcoating.com tell him chase sent you from miamiatv

Thanks for all the information guys. I will work to get those lil' bastards out!

As for the PCer, I am going to use a guy that works on Banshee frames all the time in San Diego. Don't want to ship cross country. Too much $$ :)

Thanks again!

Be sure when you are tapping your bearings out that you use a brass drift. This way if you happen to bang into the bearing pocket (not reccommended) it won't fuck it up too bad.

Get in there with a steel drift and you'll be there a while cleaning it up to get your bearings back in.

when you go to drop the bearings in freeze them for a good 12 + hours , and also heat the frame part up where u drop the bearing it ( heat expands ) & freezing shrinks ....... should make sence why i say to do that . you dont want to tap your bearings in and ruin the threads atleast on the steering stem ....... i got that tip from a buddy who made the mistake. good luck on ure shee and let me know how it comes out . i love the custom banshee scene

Alright! Got those bastards out! Didn't damage any thing either :D I put the hubs in the oven at 100C for about 10 mins and poped those suckers out! Getting close to sending stuff out now :)

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll post pics when I get things back, and along the way!
