I will never get a chance to ride her now, maybe once in a couple of months or something. Is there anything I should do to prevent anything odd from happening? Like draining out the gas to prevent from running dead gas later? or letting the bike run all the gas out of the carbs to stop them from gumming up? things like that... any other storage tips for the newbie? locogato11283 Posted September 9, 2005 Report Share Posted September 9, 2005 yea id drain the gas. dont let any sit in there too long, especially over the winter. make sure u have a good mix of coolant in there to prevent shit from freezing. might cover it to keep dust a dirt and shit off of it. plug the pipes up. keep spiders andshit from gettin in there. Then cycle the kickstarer to spread it around. & grease the fittings in case some water is in there from the last wash/ ride. Maybe W-D 40 the chain (or chain lube) real good to keep it from geting rusty. And change the oil.... and etc... I do all this stuff every time since I don't ride her as much as I used to. Fireman-hott Posted September 10, 2005 Report Share Posted September 10, 2005 turn off the gas, let it burn off all thats in your carbs. drain your gas tank of the excess premix. you can buy plugs for the silencers, but honestly first time you kick it over them spiders will leave real quick. pour about a teaspoon worth of 2-stroke premix oil in the cylinders. make sure you have antifreeze in the system and not straight water. wd-40 or chain wax to protect the chain and sporkets. throttle cable/clutch cable throw some powder in there make sure they stay nice and smooth. Other than that I"m outta ideas. I dont store mine for the winter or anything I ride year round, but those are the basics off the top of my head. dajogejr Posted September 10, 2005 Report Share Posted September 10, 2005 The most important is draining the gas from the carbs....so they don't gum up... then...a little premix in the cynlinders...as said above as well. You seem to have done a bit of research already...good for you.. Lastly...can you put it up on blocks...and maybe give the tires a good cleaning and conditioner...so they don't flat spot or dry crack. Sure...they shouldn't...but, hey...why chance it for 10 minutes worth of work, ya know? Heck with it...just pack her up and ride her to school, it's gotta be cheaper than driving your car with today's gas prices...I'd bet at about 70MPH you could cover that trip on a tank or two...
