Anyone ever pieced together a bike from nothing?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone out there has ever built a Banshee from nothing? I was thinking about buying a good used frame and starting from there. This way I could put what i want on it and build it the way I want it. I think it would ne a nice project. I just don't want to end up paying way more for it then it's worth.

Dude, no matter what you do, you'll sure loose money when you build a quad. Weather its from scratch, or if you just modifing an existing bike

But if ya want to build one your self, first thing is:buy a "Clymer" shop manual. It'll tell ya the in's and out's of banshee build up's or tear down's.

Also make a game plan of what kind of banshee you want to build. That way you dont spend money needlessly.

P.S. check out ebay for some good deal. JMTC

one thing you have to realize when buildin a banshee, wether it be buildin just the motor or buildin the whole thing, is that you are going to loose your ass come time to sell it.

Your typical strong running bike thats got around 9 to 10 grand in it will only be worth about 4500 to 5500 on an average.

The cheapest way to go fast, is to buy a bike that is already built. Its kinda takes the fun outta havin a project, but it sure is a lot cheaper in the long run

i found a 89 that barely ran with a bent frame for 600 bucks. i put a used frame under it, did every bearing etc, went thru the whole bike, rebuilt the top end, it had a new crank in it but only had 89 psi compression, so i was lucky there, it was sitting in a shed for 5 years with mold growing on it, ported it bored 40 over got a pipe off ebay, etc and gave it to my wife, turned out really nice and i had about 2000 bucks in it when done. but i did everything myself except the cylinder work. if you try to go piece by piece you will spend 3 times that money

If money is no object and all you really want to do is put one together from the ground up then I say do it. Half the fun, well atleast I think, is making the banshee run the way you want and upgrading it yourself. The other half is enjoying the work you put into it. And adding a few beers into all of that makes it even more fun. Also leaving everyone you ever raced behind you doesnt hurt either! :bolt::P servers them right for getting a craptor :P

i got my 90 as a basket case, in 4 boxes and a rolling frame, needed a crank, top end and rad and chain. paid 200 for the quad and got the rest off ebay for a few hundred bucks, took me a while to get it together and see what odds and ends i neeeded but got there and now she runs like a champ. be sure to get a book if you go this route! it can be done!
