mysterious sparks

Recommended Posts

ALRIGHT GUYS, I AM NEW TO THE BANSHEE WORLD AND I LOVE IT! ONLY ONE SMALL PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD MY 88 FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS NOW, AND I HAVE SMALL SPARKS COMING FROM MY SILENCERS. THEY SEEM TO ONLY APPEAR AT 3/4 TO FULL THROTTLE AND PRIMARILY COME FROM THE LEFT SILENCER, BUT NOT ALWAYS. I KNOW A LOT ABOUT ENGINES AND SUCH, BUT YOU PEOPLE ARE THE EXPERTS. SO WHAT GIVES? THANKS

I HAVE THE OLD SKOOL TYPE II DG SILENCERS. NOT SURE IF THEY HAVE ARRESTORS IN THEM, THINKING NOT.  RIGHT NOW IN WISCONSIN I HAVE IT JETTED AT 220 WITH A 35MM TRINITY CV CARB CONVERSION. THE PLUGS ARE A NICE MARSHMALLOW GOLD. NOT TOO LEAN AND NOT TOO FAT.

buddies 250r was doing that and the rings were comin apart, better tear it down and check before you bust a piston skirt, could also be the left side crank bearing giving up, CHECK THE CRANK EXTENSIVELY, cus if you do a topend job and miss a loose crank bearing, boom ther goes your new top end. either way 40 bucks for a gasket kit to check it out is worth it to avoid 1000 bucks in broken parts, but it aint silencer packing sparking, make sure you pull the stator cover and check for movement in the crank bearings.

Were the silencer recently packed with fresh packing? Kind of stupid to pull the whole topend apart if it's only the packing burning off.

I dont see how the packing burn off could cause a spark. As far as sparks out the silencer goes, what type of sparkplug are you using?
