Colorado Red
About the time I'm ready to sell the 'ol Warrior, it decides to start running like crap. It ran fine last year...a little popping now and then, but I figured its the White Bro's pipe...its loud! Well, now it idles fine, but pops and bogs when under heavy throttle. I cleaned the carb out a few times and got it running better. It idles perfect now, runs great up to about half or three quarters throttle...then pop pop pop... I checked the parking brake safety thing (even though the parking brake is gone) and it doesn't make a difference if its unplugged or not. I'm sure it is not that, being it runs fine to about half throttle. After the last carb cleaning with lots of carb cleaner used, it ran pretty decent. I let it idle for a while to burn up all the cleaner, then gave it a little throttle. It was better, pumped the throttle a couple times (a few pops, but I kept going), then went WOT. After doing that a couple times, I look down and the exhaust is cherry red!! I've never noticed this before and I can't imagine it is normal. I checked the plug after that, and its pretty good...a little dark if anything. It does seem a little louder this year, but I'm sure its just me being used to my stock Banshee exhaust. Any help would be great!! FYI-- stock engine, carbs, K&N in slightly vented box, White Bros pipe, Roost Boost, and thats about it....its an '87 model. -Mike
FASTOYS
check for mudabers nest in the pipe or intake tract..
tOj
What size main jet are you running with the pipe and the filter? The popping to me sounds like a lean main, that's air escaping without any fuel as a partner.
midnite
Did you rejet when you put the pipe on?
lia1008
if you didnt re-jet when you put the pipe on then that will cause some problems very similar to what you have going on.
Colorado Red
I bought the machine at the start of last year, exactly as it sits. It maybe ran a little lean, and popped a little when I ran it then. Now its not ridable...can't get any speed going. I guess it could be that he never re-jetted when he put the exhaust on. I thought he said he had it tuned in at the shop a year before I bought it. How do I tell what size the jets are??

pimpeinkc
if it ran good last year, i would keep looking at the electrical, my warrior did that kind of stuff, try the brake deal, it got me, and then try the spark plug boot, they are 3-5 bucks, and that got me too.... Colorado Red
Thanks for all the info!! I'll try to rejet this weekend. I was a little hesitant to do that, being the plug still looks fine. Maybe I'm not running it long enough to burn it up. I figured something was running too hot when the exhaust turned red. Thanks again...I'll update after the rejetting.
Colorado Red
Ok, pulled the jet...its was a 132.5. I went up to a 142.5, and its much better! It now has a little hesitation at low throttle. I dropped to needle to the bottom notch (was one above that), and it helped very little. Its rideable now, but a little annoying to be hesitant like that. Its almost perfect if you pull the choke just a touch. Does that help?? I tried the air screw, but that didn't make a difference, so went back to where I started on that. I was told it could be the pilot jet...any ideas??? Thanks again!
