macgillivary
hello well i have some minor motor mods i guess i have a 2 into 1 pipe, 2 into 1 carb now, also have a lightened flywheel, +4 timing, ported reed cages, moddquad head with 21 cc domes, and thats it i havent gotten the 2 into 1 carb put on yet so i havent started up the bike but i am wondering with these mods at sea level or slightly above not very much, what octane i should be running with, im trying to get away with supreme 91 pump fuel with some octane booster added but i want to hear from you guys what should be right, if you need anymore info let me know, i dont want any detonation happening again thanks Edited August 7, 2005 by macgillivary
VinceDizzy
With those 21cc domes at sea level Premium is good. I have 19cc domes running 50/50 Sunoco Race/Chevron Premium. So 21cc with premium should be okay.
Dead Op
Octane boooster does Jack shit man, do a search on some threads about it
dlnoss
I'd try to get the octane up to at least 93 octane since the timing is advanced in addition to the 21cc domes. I would also prefer a race gas or av-gas mixture to raise the octane instead of octane booster,,,,10% - 20%

dlnoss
You should be able to get 100LL Av-gas at about any small airport. It will keep for years without going sour and getting gummy. I paid $2.65/gallon for some a couple weeks ago but it's pretty cheap around here. I paid $3.00 a couple months ago when I flew to Tunica, MS, but that was at a ritzy airport in a gambling town. Shee-Male
I really wouldn't worry about running av-gas, I run a milled head (.030) and +4 timing and I run sunoco gold 94 wich prob isn't even 94 with all the crap they put in it and the bike runs champ 350-450 km a mounth for three yaers now on stock top end. macgillivary
well i was gonna mix AV with supreme the problem is our pumps around here max at 91 and dlnoss says 91 is a bit to low, i trust that guys word hes the compression man im lookin for about 93 but pumps dont serve that around here thats alot of km a month man i use it every weekend when its running probably like 60-100k a week and i thought i used my bike alot
dlnoss
I'd take a gas jug with you. I admit I usually recommend on the conservative or safe side but you could buy several hundred gallons of race or av gas for what it would cost if you trashed an engine because of detonation. odaen
good advice from dlnoss (who didn't even sell you the head, btw). always be a bit conservative with your motor. it'll pay off in the end.
