alcoholbanshee
I have an arctic cat snowmobile that has 6500 miles on it. The bore has never been recoated! In a related story my cub motor had as catastrophic of a meltdown as anything i've ever seen. I could stick two fingers thru the hole in the piston! There was no damage to the bore whatsoever! There was aluminum everywhere but the bore was fine. I guess the moral to the story is nickisil is some really tough shit.

RNBRAD
well thats good to know. tough shit sounds like it.. 402921[/snapback] Sure is, now they need to coat the pistons with it too. Stuffs prolly too heavy.
23champ
If taken care of properly the plating will prolly outlast the quad. I've been riding mx bikes all my life. Trust me, I run them hard too but, I also take good care of my bikes. I clean the air filter berfore every ride, and after I get done ridding the first thing I do is wash my bike. My bikes are always clean. All motocross bikes have had plating since the late 80's. The only way to wear a cylinder(thats plated) out is by not overhauling your bike when its time. The piston starts to wear, and then begins rocking at the top of the stroke and at the bottom, this starts to wear at the coating. So if you want your CUBs to last TAKE CARE OF THEM! Master of Faster
I'm a big fan of nikisil too. I have a Vmax-4 snowmobile with nikisil cylinders that has 11,700 miles on the original bore/pistons/rings. Has lost less than 5 psi per cylinder since the day it left the factory in 1992. All I do with the sled now is drag race, it spends all of its life at 8,500+ rpms without a problem, its amazing stuff. Here's an interesting tidbit, Vmax-4 750 and 800 nikisil cylinders will bolt on to Banshee cases. Banshee 400 with stock Yamaha cylinders Never tried it myself, but I beilieve its been done. racer
MoF: so do these motors have basicly the same crank with a longer stroke? or how is this done?
Master of Faster
Vmax-4 800 cylinders are 65mm bore. Vmax-4 stroke is 59.6mm, 5.6 mm longer than a stock Banshee crank. So I don't know what the best way would be to go about doing it. Maybe a 4mil stroker Banshee crank and deck the cylinders? 7mil crank and cut the domes? These cylinders make some pretty wicked power, Vmax-4 800 with pipes is 170 hp. It's deffintely something I'd like to try, but I need to research it further.
