Jdawg82
I have a knocking noise coming from what appears to be my clutch cover or right side cylinder. At first I thought it could be detonation but I was running straight 110 octane with +4 timing. I set the timing back to stock and it was still there. So then I drained the tank and threw in some 93 octane still there. I am just wondering where to start to look for the problem or what it could be. Should I pull the clutch cover first or the jugs? wayfst
fast knocking or slow?
ledofthezep
Could be your impeller rattling a bit, may check it out & make sure it's not warped. Mine's had a slight knocking/rattling in there for years & nothing has came of it. What oil you running?
Jdawg82
It changes with the rpms. It isnt too loud but definetly noticeable. I hit a jump and when I landed it started. I am also hoping it just the impeller however I already replaced it with a pro design metal one. I am running yamalube mixed 32:1 and bel rays gearsaver for the tranny. I have a bran new top end bored .80 with wiesco pistons. After putting it together I had 130 psi of compression. I will check again now after the knocking has occured. I lost no power whatsoever. Spitfire
bored .80 with wiesco pistons. Dayum. Sounds like an impellar problem to me too.
ScrewMachine
Might be the impeller, but I'd definately be checkin the flywheel just in case. When they come loose, it'll make a rattling/knocking sound similar to what you're describing. And it'll cause a sh** load of damage if left to run that way. Understand ya said right side, but when my flywheel came loose it sounded like it was commin' from there too.
MILO
i thought mine had a knock or something too, and some vibration, and when closely watching and listening to the motor while revving it, i noticed that my motor mount dampers were shot, and the whole motor jumpin around and vibrating pretty bad. i put the new dampers in but haven't got it back in the frame yet, so i'm anxious to see how much it helped, or if there's still something wrong. i guess if it was something in the clutch, like the adjuster coming loose or something you would have clutch problems too. seems odd that it started after landing a jump though you wouldn't think anything in the motor would get jarred loose or out of wack. were you on the throttle hard, or not at all and seem to want to stall when you touched down? HASTY
i,ve just discovered the same noise, but on the left side, my fly wheel crank bearing seems to be worn out, not sure on the limits of free play there. also removed the plugs and turned flywheel by hand and got a tock tock sound coming out plug hole (LH) .so i put a plastic tube down onto the piston and turned it over TDC ,it went quieter with the pressure on piston, could some one help me with some sort of answer to this ,as i've just put new pistons and rings in 6mths ago and dont ride it much, dont want it to go on me again adjustable timing plate, shaved head, rest standard ??? burnt hole in left piston last time, replaced seal then, replaced bearing 12 mths ago ?? pimpeinkc
i would pull the clutch cover, might have a bolt loose on the clutch or some where in there, and that is not good. if you got a new top end you should be okay there as long as all the bolts are still tight, why are you running high octain on stock compression? keep us posted on what you find as you take it apart.
