stuntmasta3o5
I dunno about them 450r's , I smoked one with my raptor (stock vrs stock) by like 4 bikes and the guy has been riding for 10 years. I never considered Honda's as a performance bike execpt for those 400ex's (Man those things are fast)

I never considered Honda's as a performance bike execpt for those 400ex's (Man those things are fast) 395749[/snapback] Your saying the 450r's are slow but "man those [400ex's] are fast". Your crazy. A 450r will put a serious whooping on a ex all day long, not too mention the R is a lot more advanced with the engine components and the suspension has much better travel. The R makes the ex look like a freaking dinasour performance-wise. The R is really detuned. Add a cam and a silencer and I promise your stock Raptor will be babyshit. And the performance aspect? CRF's are the bikes to beat, the 250r was THE quad to beat for how many years and then it went to hybrid ex's? When has any other company really had a shot at it before the factory thumper craze started? As I said: As far as power on the 450, it desperately needs a silencer can and a cam. That will REALLY wake the 450 up. The YFZ already has an agressive cam, so it's like comparing a stock banshee to a piped banshee. The YFZ is already "setup" for the most part, but the Honda is heavily detuned.

I have 2 friends one with the yfz and other with the r, both piped and cammed. They race everytime we go to LS like 50 times. They are almost as dead even as you can get 2 quads. They are usually within a foot of each other unless someone errors.

Signed the paperwork, and they're like, "you wanna ride it?" I was like ok. It was still bone ass stock and I was like, holy crap, THIS is what I bought? It was really comfortable and all, but man was it slow, especially coming off my ported banshee. But, I knew the cam and other stuff were going in, so I just bit my tongue and trusted. Thankfully, it came through. I've still got my 13:1 piston sitting here along with a couple other goodies, but I just don't feel the need to tear into it with it running as good as it does. Just to point out, I'm not saying the 450r is the fastest quad out there at all, and I'm not saying it'll beat everything. I'm just saying it is very capable of hanging right in there with the rest of them and it seems to often get a bad rap. The comments stuntboy said just kind of irritated me. Personally, I bought mine strictly for xc racing. How, when and where I race, pure speed is not near as important as overall machine capabilities, suspension, torque, and comfort. For me, the 450r excels over all other quads in those areas bar none, and that's exactly why I picked it. Remember, I said... "for me" and each person's needs in a quad are different. Later peeps. NYUK
i bought mine to putt around and ride wheelies on. i`m coming off a 75 hp gas banshee and a nitrous drag bike, so a lil 450 thumper ain t gonna impress me? well i was impressed riding the honda.handling, torque, speed are fine for what i want it for.i`ve already owned a yfz also.it was kinda smallish for me.i just laugh when i read the whole 450 450r debates on message boards.yamaha fans say one thing, honda fans say another.i got 2 complaints about the honda, the fuckin seat is like riding a wooden plank after about 3 hours.being a white boy i got no rythm and even less ass, so after about 3 or 4 hours my ass be hurting. stall the 450 r hot, and you will have a stroke trying to get that fucker started with the polish backwards kicker. locogato11283
john, they make an electric start kit for the 450r now...it was in this months dirtwheels. about 400 bucks i think..

Big Blue
I also hear or read somewher at the R is getting electric start next year. That would definetly be incentive for me to get one over the yfz. When it comes down to ne or the other which ever one i can get a better deal on will decide what i buy later on. sredish
I did have problems getting it started after after a hot stall, but when I finally smartened up enough to start using the "Hot Start" lever... it fired up first kick. The kickstart lever was probably THE hardest thing to get used to. The Goki e-start is right at 5 bills. I don't know how well it works; I've heard everything from awesome to the Goki starter is nothing better than a boat anchor, so I don't know. John, that rythm and ass comment was pretty funny. I don't find the seat all that bad, but compared to a stock banshee seat, it definitely is hard, but still not near as hard as a YFZ. I might get the +1/2" foam seat for it eventually tho. Anyways, guess I've said plenty in this thread.

Meat
450r won the overall GNC Pro class this year. John Natalie. 450r is currently in second place overall in the GNCC pro class. Chris Borich Both of these guys are factory Honda racers now. Chris finally got his contract with Honda, he's been racin' em for along time, its about time Honda stepped up and backed him. Tim Farr is the other Honda factory rider. He's in 3rd or 4th overall in the GNC circuit. Gust and Jones are both racing Suzuki's and they're both in and out of the top 5 overall all season long. Wheres them motorcross Yammys ?? Those GOKI electric starters are crap tho, the one they're sellin for the honda looks just like the one they tried sellin me back in '88 for my 230 QuadSport. You'd be better off makin your own. Honda released an electric start CRF based trail bike this year, rumor has it the same setup will be on the '06 450rs, and if they don't get put on in '06, they'll prolly def get it in '07. Every XC race I'v been too..... there's always 2 or 3 Hondas sitting on the starting line with their riders kickin and kickin and kickin and kickin and kickin while the rest of the pack is allready through the first corner. Someone please edit "puddlejumpers" YFZ sig picture plz Edited July 23, 2005 by Meat
