cannondale or banshee?

I am a banshee owner, but I feel that I might have to cross over again to the 4 strokes...I had a Z400 but went back to the banshee but now I want to go back again...Im looking at an 02 cannondale speed 440 with all the extra goodies for 3000, i dont know what to do, any opinions????

If I had to trade my banshee for a 4 stroke, I would trade for the YFZ450. But I dont have to... Cuz I already have a 450!! :P The Cannondales dont seem to run all that great in my opinion. A guy that hillclimbs at the same hill we do owns two of them, and he never seems to do very good. Ive never ridden one, but by watching him, they dont seem to scoot too well. :shrugani:

Well, being a Banshee site, you can guess what kind of answer you'll be getting. I've heard Cannondales run damn good, but I would have NOWHERE to go locally to get parts if something would ever happen. So that's one thing to keep in the back of your mind. I personally think the damn things look like frogs, but i dunno. :shrugani: 3 grand doesn't sound like a terrible deal, depending on what you mean by "extra goodies".

i dont realy think i could trust a bike that comes from a company that started out by making mountain bikes and 10 speeds?? and from the people i have talked to that own one, i have not yet found a person who said if they could go bank to when they bought it they would buy a cannondale again?? but i havnt owned one so my oppinion dosnt realy count :shrugani:

I would stay FAR FAR away from the Cannondale unless its had all the ATK updates--there are alot of them-- My brother in law just bought an 03 off ebay, nice bike, but still a cannondale. He did the majority of the easy ATK updates to it. One thing that he didnt do was get the Crank bearings updated. Well we were riding the dunes in Rock Springs when the crank bearing let go...needless to say we were about 5 miles from camp and I had to pull him back with the KFX700 V-Force. Rebuild and new crank with new ATK bearings is pretty damned expensive.

 

They do run good, but not even close to my banshee. Throttle response on the Fuel injected 440 is insane. They are extremely loud as well due to the engine design. Oil is housed in the frame wich makes oil changes kind of fun. Bottom line is they are kinda a pain in the ass but they are fun!

cannondale mountain bikes are by far one of the best bike compnies out there. one of the fastest downhillers in the world rides a cannondale and he is fast. If i were you man i would go with the cannondale. if done right they can be pretty sweet

not only do they make some of the best Mt bike out there, but do you how many companys started off "small" turning out bigger and better things.....that bike was way a head of its time....

 

I have a friend that stored his in my garage for a few months. I used it quite often(brought it out everytime i took the banshee out).

Except for a few "upgrades" front rear suspension, and some tweeking to the EFI, it was basicly a stock bike...handling and comfort...A+, get up and go..B-/C+, parts available a big fat F- !!

and that would be the only reason i wouldn't buy one(used)...

well that and the resale price most owners are trying to recoup from the initial investment...

like i said in the chat man.... from what i understand.... these things are imposible to work on... like to do mods and stuff for... the motor is like a big case cover and they say to basicly do anything to them you have to take it to a dealer... im sure its always fun to have fuel injected and everthing.... but like i would rather sell the shee and get like a big bore kfx or a yfz... or something.... i was told that they arnt that great.... after all... they did go out of business....

THANKS!! Everyone's response was just what I was looking for...I do have a few defenses...My dad is a certified IHRA mechanic so having to do engine work would be a breeze, no need to go to a dealer, and I dont really ride that often and that crazy, I was interested because of the EFI and the computer work you can do. The one Im looking at comes with the entire computer set up to do all the updates to the motor...The YFZ is a great idea but cash is very tight, I was just working on selling the shee and using that money...and considering this is a banshee sight alot of the responses went both ways THANKS again!

cannondale is one of the premier bicycle manufacturers in the nation, and it's a shame that their bike and quad division didn't have more success. they definitely have the tech and engineering to pull it off. i was really excited to see that they started it up. both plants ( bicycles and quads) are only about 20 min from my house, and their stuff did look pretty sweet. several local guys got a part time job testing rides on the mx track behind the plant and believe me, i was tempted, but my work schedule clashed with theirs and it didn't work out. i'd love to see cannondale make another attempt someday, i'd definitely look into it then. i don't think they're completely out of the picture yet.

There is still hope!!!!

ATK is a company that bought out all of the old cannondale stuff and patents....I spoke w/ a rep today and they said that they upgraded and fixed 13 different problems on the old 440s including the crank, crank bearing and other internal errors...atk also sells every part to build one form the ground up

yeah but you still need to do all the updates to the cannondale, or have someone do them for you.....i think its like 1200 bucks for the entire job from ATK. good luck! make sure the crank bearings get done!
