Bansh88 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Share Posted July 15, 2005 I have a set of FMF SSTs on my Banshee. Top of the line, most expensive pipes FMF makes. The god damn piece of trash pipe coupling is worthless and has since destroyed itself. The clamps on it are broken and maxed out to the point of uselessness. I would buy a nice aftermarket one but the connection has been put right behind a gusset in the frame. Allowing for little or no room for anything. Nor the ability to show off some aluminum. I barely was able to use pipe clamps to cinch down the lastest coupling i have on. The connection, being where it is, makes exhaust blow right onto the air filters if a leak occurs (often and easily). Any sort of hardware easily start rubbing onto the filters due to this sweet location. Toomey pipes have the connection well in front of the air filter and in the open for easy maintenance and clamp install, tightening, etc. Toomey silencers have 1 bolt for the silencer with 1 small rubber gromit. FMF has 2 places places to be bolted. Not to mention, FMF silencers are twice the size as Toomeys. Greasing the inner, lower A-arm is almost impossible due to the pipe being in the way. Toomey allows ample room. I'll save some cash and heartache next time I buy pipes. Who are the R&D geniuses at FMF? Oh yeah. Even those cheese dick stickers melt/shrink on the silencers. BigCP Posted July 15, 2005 Report Share Posted July 15, 2005 i hear ya man! my fmfs were a bitch to get on especially at that connection you are talkin about, hell i don't even have clamps on mine they are so tight and it took a damn torch and a rubber mallet to even get it up enough to bolt the silencer on. i thought about some nice pipe clamps from like cascade but, its no use because nobody can see em anyway and plus they might not go on because of the room issue. i had toomeys on my last banshee before this one and they bolted up nicely, and the silencer slid up onto the expansion chamber with no problems. i think im gonna buy some cpi's, or toomeys anway and most likely toomeys because ive had em before and know they are good pipes. after trying both pipes i personally think the toomeys pull alot harder than the fatties, don't know about sst's though but, as far as the fatties go i think the t-5 is better, just my opinion. dirtplay1975 Posted July 16, 2005 Report Share Posted July 16, 2005 one thing you might think about doing is pulling the silencers, then taking some copper make a gasket silocone and running a bead around the pipe just a little forward of the end of the pipe, then sliding the silencers back on and wipe the excess that oozed out around it and let it cure. I did this when I piped my blaster and it worked great, no leaks and it wont really need anything else over the connection. Banshee~ Posted July 17, 2005 Report Share Posted July 17, 2005 You really need two people to put them on. Unbolt the airbox, put the stock exaust clamp on thet stinger, then run some silicone where they connect and have a buddie bolt the silencer in place and pull the airbox out of the pipe clamps way. Slide it on there and tightend the shit out of them. I did a couple test to see which way the pipe couplers were going to go, some are on backwards because of the tight fit. Took me about 8 hours for the removing, installing, and the first jetting I tryed. BTW I used the stock pipe clamp that was closest to the silencer (the one that looks like is woven).
