Shifting problem

Hey ya'll, since this is my first time posting, I have to say thanks for the great website. Here's my problem: I've got a '98 Banshee, with a brand new barnett clutch in it. It used to slip in 5th and 6th before, but then all of a sudden, it was stuck in either 3rd or 4th gear. I tore it apart, and put the new clutch in, but it didn't help. I've got some pics I'll upload later, but the "C" part of the shift arm that rides on the dowels seems weird. It's facing like a normal "C", but I was told it needs to be flipped around. I just used it for trail riding, and the occasional drag race. Any thoughts?

You may check & see if the shift forks are bound up on the shift star...see if the teeth on it that move the pegs on the shift star are off or have popped into the center of the star. Would be my 1st suggestion anyway, the forks should be facing like a 'C' though, yes...

Welcome to the HQ.

Jason , it should be flipped around like a backwards C.

Feel free to give me a call and i will gladly walk you through it and might be able to help you with parts as alot of times after the shift shaft flips around like that it messes up the little spring!! 785-364-5325

While you got the clutch all apart, might I recommend one of those shift-pro kits.  Great improvement on shifting, HIGHLY recommend it if you do trail riding.

I too recommend helping the Banshee shifting woes, but in my opinion the shift pro kits are over priced! I can hook you up with a new shift shaft, shift mod , and easy spring for less than the shift pro kit. Ask Stclark, Locogato, and others how good they work!
